  1. The Miseries of Human Life

The Miseries of Human Life was written by James Beresford 1764 1840 and published in 1806, first as a single volume and then as an expanded two volume edition later that year. 1. Dynamic testing

Dynamic testing or dynamic analysis is a term used in software engineering to describe the testing of the dynamic behavior of code. That is, dynamic analysis refers to the examination of the physical response from the system to variables that are not constant and change with time. In dynamic testing the software must actually be compiled and run Actually Dynamic Testing involves working with the software, giving input values and checking if the output is as expected. These are the Validation activities. Unit Tests, Integration Tests, System Tests and Acceptance Tests are few of the Dynamic Testing methodologies. Dynamic testing means testing based on specific test cases by execution of the test object or running programs. Dynamic testing is used to test software through executing it. This is in contrast to Static testing . 1. Static testing

Static testing is a form of software testing where the software isn t actually used. This is in contrast to dynamic testing . It is generally not detailed testing, but checks mainly for the sanity of the code, algorithm, or document. It is primarily syntax checking of the code and or manually reviewing the code or document to find errors. This type of testing can be used by the developer who wrote the code, in isolation. Code review s, software inspection inspection s and walkthrough s are also used. From the black box testing point of view, static testing involves reviewing requirement s and specification standards specification s. This is done with an eye toward completeness or appropriateness for the task at hand. This is the verification portion of Verification and Validation . Even static testing can be automated. A static testing test suite consists of programs to be analyzed by an interpreter or a compiler that asserts the programs syntactic validity. software bug Bugs discovered at this stage of development are less expensive to fix than later in the Software development process development cycle . Citation needed date July 2009 The people involved in static testing are application developers and testers. Sources Kaner, Cem Nguyen, Hung Q Falk, Jack 1988 . Testing Computer Software Second ed. . The illegal drug trade in The Bahamas involves trans shipment of cocaine and marijuana through The Bahamas to the United States. Lynden Pindling In 1982, a report entitled The Bahamas A Nation For Sale by investigative television journalist Brian Ross journalist Brian Ross was aired on NBC in the United States. The report claimed Lynden Pindling and his government accepted bribes from Colombian drug smugglers, particularly the notorious Carlos Lehder , co founder of the Medell n Cartel , in exchange for allowing the smugglers to use the Bahamas as a transshipment point to smuggle Colombian cocaine into the US. Through murder and extortion, Lehder had gained complete control over the Norman s Cay in Exuma , which became the chief base for smuggling cocaine into the United States. Lehder boasted to the Colombian media about his involvement in drug trafficking at Norman s Cay and about giving hundreds of thousands of dollars in payoffs to the ruling Progressive Liberal Party, but Pindling vigorously denied the accusations, and made a testy appearance on NBC to rebut them. However, the public outcry led to the creation in 1984 of a Commission of Inquiry to investigate the drug trade and official corruption in the Bahamas. A review of Pindling s personal finances by the Commission found that he had spent eight times his reported total earnings from 1977 to 1984. The Oratorio dei Filippini Oratory of Saint Phillip Neri is a building located in Rome and erected between 1637 and 1650 by Francesco Borromini . He belonged to the Congregation of the Oratory , founded by Philip Neri in 1561. It was there that, in 1600, Emilio de Cavalieri s La rappresentazione di anima e di corpo , regarded as one of the first examples of the genre of the oratorio , was given for the first time. The oratory of Filippini is adjacent to the Chiesa Nuova , the mother church of the congregation. In front of the two sides was a small closed square, now integrated in the Corso Vittorio Emanuele II. History The congregation of the Filippini already had one of the most well decorated Baroque churches in Rome, and the order, so enthralled by the piousness encouraged by music, had planned to build an oratory, as well as a residential quarters, adjacent to the church of Santa Maria in Vallicella Chiesa Nuova located in crowded central Rome. Borromini won a competition for designing the structure against many including Paolo Maruscelli . He was employed in the task for 13 years, often a testy process. By 1640, the oratory was in use, by 1643, the library was complete. Description The striking facade adjacent to the church entrance has little regard for the structures behind. Inside the oratory is articulated by half columns and a complex rhythm of pilasters. The facade provides a summary of Borromini s characteristics of innovations style, both austere and technically rigorous. The main body is divided into five parts by pilasters following a concave curve. In the central part, a dialectic set appears between the lower level, whose curve moves outward. At the top, the Tympanum architecture ...   more details

  1. Fergus Suter

Image Fergus Suter.jpg thumb 250px right Fergus Suter, Blackburn Rovers full back, from 1880 to 1889 Fergus Suter or Fergie Suter born Glasgow , 1858. Died Blackpool , 1916 was a former stonemason and football soccer footballer in the early days of the game in the United Kingdom during the 19th century. Arguably the first recognised professional footballer, Suter was a native of Glasgow , Scotland , and played for Partick Thistle F.C. Partick Thistle and Rangers F.C. before moving to England to play for Darwen F.C. and Blackburn Rovers F.C. Blackburn Rovers . His first moves below the border into English football were with Partick Thistle, and on 1 January 1878 he played for them against Darwen F.C. at Barley Bank, and against Blackburn Rovers at Alexandra Meadows the following day. That same year he began to play for the Lancashire club Darwen. Although the game was officially amateur at the time, Suter s move to England to play for Darwen in 1879 was shortly followed by him giving up his job as a stonemason, claiming that English stone was far too difficult to work, and fuelling criticism that he was being paid to play. During the summer of 1880 he caused still more controversy by moving to Blackburn Rovers, a local rival of Darwen. The move again stirred up accusations of professionalism amid claims that Blackburn had offered him improved terms. Suter s move inflamed an already testy local rivalry, and bitter games and crowd trouble dogged future Darwen Blackburn matches for years. His career was all but over by the time the Football League formed in 1888. He made only one appearance for Blackburn Rovers in that competition, on 22 December 1888 against West Bromwich Albion F.C. West Bromwich Albion as a replacement for the goalkeeper Herbie Arthur . He appeared in a total of four FA Cup finals, and collected three winner s medals. 1. The Service

Thoreauviana expanded Core The Service is an essay written in 1840 by Henry David Thoreau . He submitted it to The Dial for publication, but they declined to print it. It was not published until after Thoreau s death. The essay uses war and military discipline as metaphor s that, as Thoreau would have it, can instruct us in how to order and conduct our lives. Themes The Service is in part a contrarian swipe at the many pacifist writers and lecturers whose teachings on nonresistance were then very much in vogue, in part thanks to Christian anarchist and pacifist Adin Ballou who spoke on the subject at the Concord Lyceum on occasion and who founded the New England Non Resistance Society of which William Lloyd Garrison was also a leader, and a Lyceum speaker as well . Thoreau debated the subject Is it ever proper to offer forcible resistance? in a formal Lyceum debate arguing the affirmative in 1841, and surviving records of the Lyceum note that the subject came up many times in debates, discussions, and lectures. Thoreau s own views were very much influenced by these non resistants, and are often confused with them even today. When Amos Bronson Alcott resisted his taxes to protest war and slavery, three years before Thoreau would resist his taxes over the same issues, Alcott s action was explained within the context of non resistant philosophy. When Thoreau explained his own tax resistance, he took pains to distinguish his theory from theirs, titling his essay Resistance to Civil Government . In The Service , Thoreau tosses barbs at the non resistance preachers, warning his readers that pacifism can be a temptation to passivity blockquote p Better that we have some of that testy spirit of knight errantry, and if we are so blind as to think the world is not rich enough nowadays to afford a real foe to combat, with our trusty swords and double handed maces, hew and mangle some unreal phantom of the brain. Andrew Jackson Grigsby November 2, 1819 &ndash December 23, 1895 was a Confederate States Army officer in the famed Stonewall Brigade during the American Civil War . Grigsby was also known as both A. J. Grigsby and Arnold J. Grigsby . Grigsby was born in Rockbridge County, Virginia . He attended Washington College later, Washington & Lee University . He became a farmer and served in the Mexican American War Mexican War . When the Civil War erupted, he became a Major United States major in the 27th Virginia Infantry in the Stonewall Brigade in 1861, Lieutenant colonel United States lieutenant colonel later that year, and Colonel United States colonel in 1862. He succeeded John Echols in these higher ranks. Grigsby served under Stonewall Jackson in the Valley Campaign , fighting at the First Battle of Winchester . Then, he served under Jackson in the Seven Days Battles and Second Bull Run , being slightly wounded in the latter. Grigsby was wounded on several occasions. He led the Stonewall Brigade from August 30, 1862, to November 6, 1862, including at the Battle of Antietam , in place of Brigadier General CSA Brig. Gen. Charles S. Winder . He became acting commander of Jackson s Division during the battle when Brig. Gen. John R. Jones was wounded and Brig. Gen. William E. Starke was killed. He was brevetted Brigadier General CSA Brig. Gen. and so served, but was apparently never confirmed. Afterwards Stonewall Jackson decided not to promote Grigsby to permanent command of the Stonewall Brigade, and the colonel resigned his commission in protest when Elisha F. Paxton of Jackson s staff was promoted in his stead. One theory why Grigsby was passed over for promotion was his use of profane language, which displeased the devout and sober Jackson. Grigsby tendered his resignation in protest. Paxton was killed by a minnie ball round, on May 3, 1863 while preparing to attack the Union Army at Chancellorsville. Grigsby is reported to have had a testy encounter with Jefferson ...   more details
