A layout boat is a low profile kayak like boat that is used by duck hunters to hide in when hunting. These boats are painted to match the color of the water and sit very low in the water. Hunters lay down in the boat and shoot the ducks as they pass overhead. They are commonly used to hunt diving duck s, such as the Greater Scaup . This is because divers often fly low on the water and will not notice the low sides of the boat. Layout boats are often placed within the decoy spread, so the decoys help further conceal the sides of the boat. ref name layoutboat cite web url http www.layouthunting.com title Open Water Layout Hunting accessdate 30  November 2011 ref References reflist Category Hunting Category Kayaks ... more details
