  1. Um Adawi Granites

Orphan date February 2009 Onesource date May 2008 Technical date May 2008 The Um Adawi Granites are igneous rocks exposed in the southeastern part of the Sinai Peninsula and they exhibit field relations, petrographic and chemical characteristics similar to the island arc older granitoids of the Arabian Nubian Shield . They have a batholitic dimension and occur as Composite material composite plutons intruding the metasediment s and the metavolcanic s, while the younger granite s intrude them. Petrographically, the rocks are homogeneous, light to dark grey and medium to coarse grained. They comprise quartz monzodiorite, tonalite and granodiorite . Plagioclase An21 32 , quartz , k feldspar , hornblende and biotite represent the essential minerals. Accessory minerals are apatite and Fe Ti oxides. Whole rock and mineral chemistry explained that the Um Adawi older granites are calc alkaline with metaluminous signature. They were emplaced in a compressional regime in an arc tectonic setting inside a crust of about 30km thickness. The rare earth element patterns of these granites suggest that they were subduction related supporting the obtained magmatic affinity and the tectonic setting. References M. G. Shahien and Obeid, M. 1. Gesta Regum Britanniae

The Gesta Regum Britanniae lang la Deeds of the Kings of Britain is a Latin epic poetry epic written at some time between 1235 and 1254, and attributed to a Breton monk, William of Rennes. The Gesta is fundamentally a versification of Geoffrey of Monmouth s Historia Regum Britanniae in Latin epic hexameter s. It retains Geoffrey s overall sequence and structure, but expands upon those elements and stories which had the greatest dramatic potential, while treating other sections more cursorily. William omits the Prophecies of Merlin section of the Historia , as Wace did in his earlier Roman de Brut . William may have read Geoffrey s Vita Merlini , but otherwise does not intrude any elements of the by then very copious Arthurian legend into his adaptation of the Historia . The form of the Gesta was inspired by Walter of Ch tillon s Alexandreis . It is divided into ten books, each of which is prefaced by a terse summary of its contents, also in verse. The entire poem is 4,923 lines long, each book being about 500 lines in length. Infobox font name Andreas image Andreas font.svg imagesize 250px style Display date 1988 creator Michael Harvey lettering artist Michael Harvey foundry Adobe Systems Adobe sample Image Andreas sample.svg 250px Andreas sample text Andreas is a humanist serif typeface designed by Michael Harvey lettering artist Michael Harvey , and licensed from the Adobe Type library. Harvey drew the lettering in 1988 as part of the book jacket design for James F. Peck s book In the Studios of Paris William Bouguereau and His American Students, a Yale University Press publication. That lettering became the foundation for the 1986 typeface Andreas. In keeping with the book s subject, Harvey wanted letterform s that reflected the Art Nouveau period. The letterforms also bear comparison with the condensed, calligraphic thirteenth century Italian monumental capitals. Due to space constraints, the type had to be narrow enough to allow the title to fit on a single line across the top, so as to not intrude on the Van Gogh painting that filled the rest of the jacket. To accomplish this he drew the letterforms freehand, giving them highly animated organic strokes and narrow character set. He also added distinctive junctions of letter strokes to the D, P, and R. The typeface was drawn in outline, intending to reverse to white, so as to not be overly assertive on the cover. Teutobod or Theudobod was Germanic king King of the Teutons . In the late 2nd century BC, together with their neighbours, allies and possible relatives, the Cimbri , the Teutons migrated from their original homes in southern Scandinavia and on the Jutland peninsula of Denmark , south into the Danube valley, southern Gaul and northern Italy . Here they began to intrude upon the lands of Roman Republic Rome Julius Caesar , in his Gallic Wars account De Bello Gallico , reports that the Boii were they who had attacked Noricum . The inevitable conflict which followed is called the Cimbrian War . The Cimbri under their King Boiorix and the Teutons, won the opening battles of this war, defeating tribes allied with the Romans and destroying a huge Roman army at the Battle of Arausio in 105 BC . But Rome regrouped and reorganized under Consul Gaius Marius . In 104 BC the Cimbri left the Rh ne River Rh ne valley to raid Spain, while the Teutons remained in Gaul, still strong but not powerful enough to march on Rome on their own. This gave Marius time to build a new army and in 102 BC he moved against the Teutons. At the Battle of Aquae Sextiae the Teutons were virtually annihilated and Teutobod along with, reportedly, 20,000 of his people was captured. After this he and his tribe drop out from history. He most likely was sent to Rome for a triumphal procession to celebrate his defeat, then ritually executed afterwards. The following year, the Cimbri would suffer a similar fate at the Battle of Vercellae . 1. Union Colliery Co. of British Columbia v. Bryden

Unreferenced date December 2007 Union Colliery Co. of British Columbia v. Bryden , 1899 A.C. 580 is a famous Canadian constitutional decision of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council where the exclusivity principle in Canadian federalism and pith and substance analysis was first articulated. Bryden was a shareholder in Union Colliery, a coal mining company in British Columbia, and was troubled by the company s practice of employing Chinamen and putting them into positions of authority. He sought an injunction against the company for violating section 4 of the provincial Coal Mines Regulation Act of 1890, which prohibited hiring Chinamen to work in coal mines. Union Colliery challenged the constitutionality of Act, arguing that the prohibition related to matters of naturalization and was under the jurisdiction of the federal government under section 91 25 of the British North America Act, 1867 . Bryden, however, argued that since the federal government had no laws covering the matter the province was allowed to step in and legislate on it. The issue before the Council was whether the provinces could legislate in matters under federal jurisdiction where the federal government has remained silent. The Council held that the pith and substance of the provision was in relation to aliens and naturalized subjects and did fall within the federal jurisdiction. They also held that the federal government did not need to pass laws in all areas within their jurisdiction, and under the exclusivity principle the province can never intrude upon the federal jurisdiction. It is only where the two governments make an explicit agreement can the province legislate in federal matters. 1. Double hermeneutic

Multiple issues orphan July 2008 refimprove June 2007 Double hermeneutic is the theory, expounded by sociologist Anthony Giddens , that everyday lay concepts and those from the social sciences have a two way relationship. ref Anthony Giddens, Social Theory and Modern Sociology Cambridge, Polity Press, 1987 ref A common example is the idea of social class , a social scientific category that has entered into wide use in society. The term was originally coined by August Comte, the founder of sociology. The double hermeneutic is held to be a distinguishing feature of the social sciences . Anthony Giddens 1982 argues that there is an important difference between the natural and social sciences. In the natural sciences, scientists try to understand and theorise about the way the natural world is structured. The understanding is one way that is, while we need to understand the actions of minerals or chemicals, chemicals and minerals don t seek to develop an understanding of us. He refers to this as the single hermeneutic . Hermeneutic means interpretation or understanding. In contrast, the social sciences are engaged in the double hermeneutic . This is because different social sciences study people and society, although the way they do so is different. Some social sciences such as sociology don t just study what people do, they also study how people understand their world, and how that understanding shapes their practice. Because people can think, make choices, and use new information to revise their understandings and hence their practice , they can use the knowledge and insights of social science to change their practice. In outlining his notion of the double hermeneutic , Giddens 1987 20 explains that while philosophers and social scientists have often considered the way in which lay concepts obstinately intrude into the technical discourse of social science that Few have considered the matter the other way around. He explains that the concepts of the social sciences ar ...   more details
