Distribution and habitat The hinge back tortoise is found in Sub Saharan Africa sub Saharan desert s and savannah s. They are probably found in rainforests . It is also found in marshes and river banks in its habitat. It spends its time buried under roots and logs. Behavior The hingeback tortoise can arch its back 90 Degree angle degree s downwards to protect its tail and hind legs while sleeping and to protect itself from predators. It is an excellent swimmer. Females lay up to 4 eggs on the ground, covered in leaves. Diet The hingeback tortoise are omnivory omnivores , feeding on vegetation . They also feed on grass , invertebrates s, carrion , weed s, and fruit s. Threats K. erosa is hunted locally for bush meat , although they are not endangered or threatened.
