H.E.A.R. is a non profit organization dedicated to preventing hearing loss, mainly from loud rock music. The acronym stands for Hearing Education and Awareness for Rockers . It was founded in 1988 by rock musician Kathy Peck and physician Flash Gordon, M.D. Citation needed date December 2009 after Kathy suffered tinnitus and hearing loss after playing with the band The Contractions . Kathy often carries earplugs in her purse and works to distribute them at rock concerts. The initial funding for the organization s formation was provided by guitarist and songwriter for The Who , Pete Townshend , who also suffers from tinnitus as a result of loud volumes at Who concerts, and a particular incident during a live performance of My Generation , when drummer Keith Moon set off some explosives inside his drum kit right next to Townshend. In 2007, H.E.A.R, largely through the efforts of Kathy Peck , was the principal organizer for DirkFest, a two day concert event in San Francisco at Slim s nightclub and the Great American Music Hall that memorialized the life and legacy of Dirk Dirksen , a legendary punk rock promoter at Mabuhay Gardens and the On Broadway in SF. Hear It Now , an United States of America American radio program on CBS , began in December 1950, ending in June 1951. It was hosted by Edward R. Murrow and produced by Murrow and Fred W. Friendly . It ran for one hour on Fridays at 9 pm Eastern Time. The show s beginnings One of the most popular and best selling records of 1948 was the Columbia Records album I Can Hear It Now 1933 1945 . The record was a collaboration between Murrow and Friendly. The record interwove historical events with speeches and Murrow s narration and marked the beginning of one of the most famous pairings in journalism history. The huge success of the record and two follow up albums released in 1949 and 1950 prompted the pair to parlay it into a weekly radio show for CBS , called Hear It Now . Originally, the series was to have been titled Report to the Nation , and was identified as such when it was announced as the following week s replacement for Broadway Is My Beat at the end of its December 8, 1950 episode. He won the Irish Grand National in 2008 and collapsed and died on the run in of the 2009 Grand National. The Mouse Morris trained seven year old held off a strong challenge from 6 1 favourite Royal County Star before pulling away for a clear victory.
