It was a temporary platform, erected by the London and South Western Railway L&SWR , as that company s adoption of the Portsmouth Direct line started a dispute with the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway LB&SCR . Battle of Havant In 1858, the two local railway companies started the Battle of Havant . The London, Brighton and South Coast Railway ran the Brighton to Portsmouth Line, and refused to allow the London and South Western Railway to use their tracks to reach Portsmouth from the junction near Havant. The LB&SCR blocked the line just north of the junction, obliging the L&SWR to open a temporary halt at Denvilles as the previous station at Rowlands Castle was thought to be too far away. Passengers would travel from Denvilles in a horse drawn omnibus to Hilsea railway station Hilsea Halt , just south of the problem area. The passengers could then carry on into Portsmouth by train. After two years the companies came to an agreement and the L&SWR were allowed access to the disputed line. ref Buriton Heritage Bank Information Sheet No 9, DJ August 2001 ref The Site Today Nothing remains of the station today the site is marked only by some old semaphore signal posts, some slates and a platelayer s hut. The station was the only one on the line built of blue bricks. The area was not developed at the time of the station s existence so having fulfilled its political function it closed, in 1859. Ironically, the LB&SCR opened a station to the east of Havant in 1907, calling it Denville Halt. However, the name was changed to Warblington railway station Warblington within the month. Location The halt is situated on a small B road, gaining its name from that of a nearby private dwelling. As part of the nature of the line, it has in the past been a stopping place for local travellers because the inter urban line runs with no platformed stations they can stop anywhere within reason. This area, over a period of time became established as a regular stopping place. s start s rail title Manx Electric Railway rail line previous Baldrine railway station Baldrine next Garwick Glen Halt Garwick Glen route Manx Electric Railway Douglas Ramsey col E2725B end box Also Manx Electric Railway stations Manx Electric Railway Stations References cite book author Mike Goodwyn title Manx Electric publisher Platform Five year 1993 isbn 9781872524528 cite book author Keith Pearson title 100 Years Of Manx Electric Railway publisher Leading Edge year 1992 isbn 0948135387 cite book author Robert Hendry title Manx Electric Album publisher Hillside Publishing year 1978 isbn 0950593303 cite book author Norman Jones title Isle Of Man Tramways publisher Foxline Publishing year 1994 isbn 1 870119 32 0 Sources http www.mers.org.im merstoppingplaces.htm Manx Manx Electric Railway Stopping Places 2002 Manx Electric Railway Society http www.island images.co.uk Rail MER zElectric.html Island Island Images Manx Electric Railway Pages 2003 Jon Wornham http ...   more details

Location A rural wayside area, catering almost exclusively for local traffic. Due to the nature of the tramway s construction, the cars can stop and drop off almost anywhere and will do so within reason. For this reason a great number of localised stopping places have built up since the line was completed, many at the intersection of farmer s crossings like this one. Naming Crossings and halts such as this one usually take the name of the farmer or the farm as is the case here, but these unofficial halts never appear in timetable materials or have nameboards fitted to show their names. Many do however now carry bus stop type signs attached to traction poles, and these were fitted in line with then management policy in 1999. s start s rail title Manx Electric Railway rail line previous Ballellin Halt Ballellin next Ballasholague Halt Ballasholague route Manx Electric Railway Douglas Ramsey col 000000 end box Also Manx Electric Railway stations Manx Electric Railway Stations References cite book author Mike Goodwyn title Manx Electric publisher Platform Five year 1993 isbn 9781872524528 cite book author Keith Pearson title 100 Years Of Manx Electric Railway publisher Leading Edge year 1992 isbn 0948135387 cite book author Robert Hendry title Manx Electric Album publisher Hillside Publishing year 1978 isbn 0950593303 cite book author Norman Jones title Isle Of Man Tramways publisher Foxline Publishing year 1994 isbn 1 870119 32 0 Sources ...   more details
