Biography Originally ordained by Transylvania Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church USA in 1803, Ewing became one of the leading ministers in the Second Great Awakening or Great Revival that took place on the American frontier in the early 19th century. When Kentucky Synod turned against the revival movement and moved to discipline what it considered to be rebellious presbyteries, in 1805, Ewing found himself with the outcasts. The synod believed that it was protecting the integrity of the ministry by requiring a classical education prior to ordination. Frontier presbyteries protested that they had an immediate need for ministers and that frontier preachers could hardly be expected to attend Princeton Theological Seminary . Between 1805 and 1810, the Presbyterian outcasts operated as the Council of Revival Ministers . They tended to their congregations as best they could while attempting to reconcile themselves with the Presbyterian Church USA . By 1810, it was obvious that a reunion would not happen in the near future. Ewing, along with ministers Samuel McAdow and Samuel King minister Samuel King , constituted an independent Cumberland Presbytery on February 4, 1810. Ewing, in particular, hoped that the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Church USA one day would reunite. Ewing was among several Protestant ministers who in 1831 helped to inspire the mobs that drove the Mormons from Jackson County, Missouri . During the Great Depression Depression , he and his wife stocked lakes in the Wind River Range with over 2.5 million trout . He served in the Wyoming House of Representatives from 1955 to 1958. At the age of 67 he retired from his job as a railroad foreman and dedicated himself full time to exploring and writing about the Wind River Range of mountains. Over the course of his life, Mitchell climbed all but 20 of the 300 peaks in the range. At the age of 73, while on a glacier , he twisted his knee in a snow covered crevasse . He hacked crude crutches out of pine wood and hobbled 18 miles to find a doctor, and was able to resume climbing until the age of 84, when further injury to the knee from a fall put an end to his solo climbing career. In 1975, he published a guidebook to the range called Wind River Trails in 1977 the University of Wyoming gave him an honorary doctorate. United States Congress Congress named the mountain Mitchell Peak after him &mdash one of the few landforms to ever be named after a living American. After 1985, Mitchell continued to give talks about the Wind River area, free of charge, and to correspond with hikers seeking his counsel. Pollack sometimes spelled Frank Lillie Pollock , and published in Argosy magazine The Argosy magazine, June 1906. It has been reprinted in magazines, translated, and anthologized numerous times, occasionally under the title The Last Dawn . The story text is now out of copyright. Then the sky turns ablaze with color as the new sun is seen and the blast of heat is almost immediate. One of the women scream as a nearby flag catches fire. The city starts to go up in smoke and those directly in the heat quickly die. One of the men in the observatory flees with his wife and it is assumed that they die outside.
