Music The son of an RAF fighter pilot he took up flying aged fourteen, making his first solo flight on his seventeenth birthday. However, a passion for music and electric guitars eventually led him to follow a musical path. In the early 1980s he formed the band Episode Four with his brother Martin Kelly Heavenly Martin . Changing their name to East Village band East Village the band went on to join Heavenly Records with whom they recorded an album Drop Out in 1990. The band split in 1991 after releasing three singles. The album was eventually released in 1993. Following a brief spell as guitarist with the Saint Etienne band Saint Etienne live band, he began to concentrate more on film and design work, although he continued to produce music, forming the band Birdie with his partner and former Dolly Mixture member Debsey Wykes. The name means a ruin in Cornish, but another Celtic languages Celtic name is Egloshayle, not to be confused with Egloshayle on the River Camel which means, the church on the estuary , a very apt description of the church s location. The village and its neighbour Rame, Maker with Rame Rame are in the civil parish of Maker with Rame and the parliamentray consituency of South East Cornwall . History In their western advance across England, the Anglo Saxons halted at the River Tamar Tamar , but in 705, Geraint of Dumnonia King Geraint of Cornwall gave the promontory on the Cornish side of the mouth of the Tamar to Sherborne Abbey , to keep control of the Tamar mouth in Anglo Saxons Saxon hands. This was royal land, and remained in Devon until 1844.The Normans installed the Valletorts as tenants of most of the land controlling the Tamar. From them, Maker passed by marriage to the Durnford family and then to the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe Edgcumbe family. Parish church The church of St Julian is a typical 15th century Cornish church. It was a time of rebuilding throughout the country and churches were designed for preaching the word rather than stressing the liturgy . The aisles are the same length as the nave , and there is a massive western tower.
