  1. Visible balance

Unreferenced date December 2009 Orphan date February 2009 The visible balance is that part of the balance of trade figures that refers to international trade in physical goods, but not trade in services it thus contrasts with the invisible balance . Most countries do not have a zero visible balance they usually run a surplus or a deficit. This will be offset by trade in services, other income transfers, investments and monetary flows, leading to an overall balance of payments . The visible balance is affected by changes in the volumes of imports and exports , and also by changes in the terms of trade . In aggregate, the World often appears to have a negative visible balance with itself i.e. imports of goods appear to exceed exports. There are numerous causes for this, such as measuring imports on a cost, insurance and freight basis while measuring exports on a free on board basis, or statistical errors occurring when imports are more closely recorded than exports. Balancing requires concurrent processing of inputs from multiple sense s, including equilibrioception from the vestibular system , Visual perception vision , and perception of pressure and proprioception from the somatosensory system , while the motor system simultaneously controls muscle actions. The senses must detect changes of body position with respect to the base, regardless of whether the body moves or the base moves. In the case of an individual standing quietly upright, the limit of stability is defined as the amount of postural sway at which balance is lost and corrective action is required. 1. Ampere balance

One source date February 2011 file Lord Kelvins Ampere Balance.png thumb The ampere balance The ampere balance also current balance or Kelvin balance is an electromechanical apparatus used for the accuracy and precision precise measurement of the SI unit of electric current , the ampere . It was invented by William Thomson, 1st Baron Kelvin . The current to be measured is passed in series through two coils of wire, one of which is attached to one arm of a sensitive Weighing scale balance . The magnetic force between the two coils is measured by the amount of weight needed on the other arm of the balance to keep it in equilibrium. This is used to calculate the magnitude of the current. The main weakness of the ampere balance is that the calculation of the current involves the dimensions of the coils. So the accuracy of the current measurement is limited by the accuracy with which the coils can be measured, and their mechanical rigidity. An improved apparatus called the watt balance sidesteps this problem and is now used instead. Usage file Slider of Kelvin Ampere Balance.png thumb Slider of Kelvin s ampere balance Approximate readings may be obtained by reading the position of the weight on the scale, or a more accurate reading may be obtained as follows The upper edge of the shelf on which the weights slide is graduated into equal divisions, and the weight is provided with a sharp tongue of metal in order that its position on the shelf may be accurately determined. Since the current passing through the balance when wikt equilibrium equilibrium is obtained with a given weight is proportional to the square root of the couple due to this weight, it follows that the current strength when equilibrium is obtained is proportional to the product of the square root of the weight ... is made to cover a certain range of reading.
