History Zeta Phi Eta is the oldest national group of its kind it was founded on October 10, 1893 under the inspiration and guidance of Dr. Robert McLean Cumnock. The founding members were Edith DeVore, Maude Newell, Mollie Connor, Leila Little, and Laurine Wright. The fraternity was incorporated under the laws of the State of Illinois on June 25, 1902. In 1908, Zeta Phi Eta affiliated with Phi Eta Sigma, a local organization founded in 1901 at Emerson College, in Boston, Massachusetts. In the affiliation, the chapter at Boston became Alpha, and the one at Evanston, Beta. The cameo and pearl pin of Alpha became the official badge, and the shield and torch of Beta, the coat of arms.     Beta Phi Alpha was a national collegiate sorority operating in the United States from 1919 until 1941. It was absorbed by Delta Zeta sorority. History On the campus of the University of California Berkeley , Beta Phi Alpha began as Bid A Wee, a group created to meet the needs of a very difficult housing situation Miner, p. 144 . In 1912, the name changed to Aldebaran , after the star. In 1919, the group became a Greek letter organization with the name Kappa Phi Alpha University of California Chronicle, p. 38 . By 1920, the sorority took on its final name, Beta Phi Alpha. Beta Phi Alpha then began the process of nationalization and expansion. In 1923, it was granted membership in the National Panhellenic Conference . Thirty five chapters were installed by 1936, but not all of them were active. Originally organized by a Dr Benz in 1888 , Beta Phi Sigma grew from one chapter, Alpha, at the University of Buffalo to eleven chapters before World War II . The induction of so many males into the military decimated the ranks of Pharmacy students so that by the end of World War II Beta Phi Sigma ceased to exist. The first chapter, Alpha, was reorganized at the University of Buffalo Pharmacy School. This chapter grew until 1973 when again because of the influx of women to the profession, and small number of men pledging the fraternity Beta Phi Sigma was dissolved.
