It is home to the Chariho school district s main campus and is otherwise largely Sod turf farms . The village is the site of the former Wood River Branch Railroad Station. The Wood River Branch of the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad was chartered in 1872 and completed in 1874. The Branch was built to provide service from the Hope Valley to the main line of the New York, Providence and Boston Railroad and was only six miles long. The New Haven Railroad took over operation of the Branch in 1892 and the railroad was abandoned on August 8, 1947. Wood River Junction is commonly considered by locals to be one of the coldest locations in the state of Rhode Island, due to its low lying and flat geography. It is the home of Meadowbrook Pond, also known as Wood River Pond, a popular fishing and swimming area. It is surrounded by two rivers The Wood River Pawcatuck River Wood River and Pawcatuck River . On 23 July 1964, a criticality accident occurred at the Wood River Junction nuclear facility in Charlestown, Rhode Island. The plant was designed to recover uranium from scrap material left over from fuel element production. An operator was pouring what he thought was diluted uranium solution into a mechanical mixer when he saw a blue flash. The solution was far more concentrated than he thought, and the mixer not big enough for safety too much uranium was now in one container it reached ...     The Hunt River is a river in the United States U.S. state of Rhode Island . It flows approximately 11 km 7 mi . There is a small stone dam just upstream from the Davisville Road bridge that powered a woolen mill active in the period 1811 1924. Course The river is formed in East Greenwich, Rhode Island East Greenwich by the confluence of Scrabbletown Brook and an unnamed stream. From there, the river flows north along Route 4 Rhode Island Rhode Island State Route 4 , then northeast to Potowomut Pond. Below the pond, the river flows southeast to Potowomut Peninsula where the river widens and becomes known as the Potowomut River . Photographed by Lewis Hine . River Point in West Warwick, Rhode Island , United States , is a community made up of mill houses and three mills. As of 2006 two are being rehabilitated as condominium s and office projects and the third is still manufacturing high quality hand soap. The soap mill is known as The Original Bradford Soap Works. The other two mills were known variously as the Valley Queen Mill which was sometimes called the Royal Mill and the other was known as Ace Dying and Finishing. The Valley Queen mill was a complete textile mill with combing, spinning and weaving operations while the Ace mill was established to finish the goods. The name Riverpoint is derived by virtue of the fact that the North and South branches of the Pawtuxet River merge into a single river at the point immediately behind the Bradford Soap Works.
