Norton was the son of William Norton, Rector of Baltinglass , Ireland . He was elected to the British House of Commons House of Commons for Newington West UK Parliament constituency Newington West in 1892, a seat he held until 1916, and served under Henry Campbell Bannerman Sir Henry Campbell Bannerman and H. H. Asquith as a Junior Lord of the Treasury from 1905 to 1910 and as Assistant United Kingdom Postmaster General Postmaster General from 1910 to 1916. The latter year he was raised to the peerage as Baron Rathcreedan , of Bellehatch Park in the County of Oxford. He later held office under David Lloyd George as Assistant Parliamentary Secretary unpaid to the Ministry of Munitions and Supply from 1919 to 1921. Lord Rathcreedan married, firstly, Cecilia, daughter of James Kennedy and widow of William Thomas Cavendish, in 1880. After her death in 1898 he married, secondly, Marguerite Cecil, daughter of Sir Charles Philip Huntington, 1st Baronet, in 1903. William Bateman Hanbury, 1stBaron Bateman of Shobdon 24 June 1780 22 July 1845 was a Member of Parliament and later a Baron in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. At birth his name was William Hanbury, although he was a distant descendant of Sir James Bateman who had been Lord Mayor of London , was his 2nd Great Grandfather. Hanbury studied at Eton College and then Christ Church, Oxford graduating from the later in 1798. He served as a Whig MP from Northampton from 1810 1818. From 1819 1820 he was High Sheriff of Herefordshire . In 1835 Hanbury made an unsuccessful run for Parliament as a liberal. In January 1837 Hanbury became the first Baron Bateman of Shobdon. In February he had his name legally changed to William Bateman Hanbury. In 1822 he had married Elizabeth Chichester, the granddaughter of Arthur Chichester, 1st Marquess of Donegall . George de la Poer Beresford, 1st Marquess of Waterford , was his elder brother. He served as Bishop of Dromore from 1780 to 1782, Bishop of Ossory from 1782 to 1794, and as Archbishop of Tuam from 1794 until his death in 1819. He was admitted to the Irish Privy Council in 1794 and in 1812 he was raised to the Peerage of Ireland as Baron Decies , of Decies in the County of Waterford. Lord Decies married on 16 June 1763 Elizabeth FitzGibbon 1732 1807 , daughter of John FitzGibbon and wife Isabella Grove. They had eight children, three sons and five daughters. One of his daughters, the Hon.
