Why Tuesday? is a nonpartisan election reform organization. Their goal is to increase voter participation in the United States by creating a dialogue about election reform. The group publishes a weekly documentary video blog in order to highlight the state of America s voting systems. Members of the group s Board of Directors are Ambassador Andrew Young , William B. Wachtel , and Norman J. Ornstein . The name is derived from the position of Tuesday as the day on which most American elections are held, which the organization holds to be outdated and detrimental to democracy it is held up as an example of the many things requiring reform in the American election system. In the news The group launched in late summer 2005 with a bipartisan poll revealing 94 of Americans favor making voting as convenient as possible. Ambassador Young, Professor Ornstein and Mr. Wachtel discussed the results of this poll at the National Press Club USA National Press Club later in 2005. On September 25, 2007, the group launched a new website and issued a challenge to all 2008 presidential candidates. Why Tuesday? issued a deadline of October 30, 2007 for candidates to record and submit a video online which outlines their respective plans for election reform. It is meant to explain how the democratic process in America works. The film begins with a small town schoolteacher who takes the day off to supervise the local election committee with representatives of the two major parties. Their first visitor is the local milkman. The camera stops at the booth curtains, because every election in America is secret, but then takes an imaginary look about what goes on inside the voting booth. The film then follows standard civics book descriptions of the three branches of government, checks and balances , and the political parties . The narrator notes two previous war time elections, 1864 and 1916, and the vigorous debate over important issues that has gone on in the country for this contest. Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 Tuesday was a pop punk emo band formed by three ex members of influential Chicago ska punk band Slapstick band Slapstick after the latter s 1996 breakup. Dan Andriano bass vocals , Matt Stamps guitar , and Rob Kellenberger drums vocals released their first EP Early Summer on Asian Man Records in 1997. Later in the year, they released their first and only LP, Freewheelin , acquired a second guitarist, Tyler Wiseman, and toured the U.S. in support of the album. Shortly thereafter, Andriano was asked by Matt Skiba to join the Alkaline Trio , and accepted. Although Mike Park was a help in writing a few songs, he has never done anything with the band. Dan Andriano sings and plays for all Tuesday songs. Alkaline Trio gained popularity very quickly, and their hectic schedule gave Andriano very little time to devote to Tuesday. Andriano continued to play with Tuesday for almost another year, although shows became more and more sparse. Tuesday went on hiatus in 1998. Kellenberger went on to play drums with Duvall band Duvall , Colossal band Colossal , and briefly for the reunited Smoking Popes . Wiseman went on to play with The Honor System band The Honor System and Whale Horse.
