  1. Quenta Silmarillion

Silmarillion Portal Middle earth Quenta Silmarillion is a collection of fictional legends written by the high fantasy writer J. R. R. Tolkien . It was published after the author s death in The Silmarillion together with four shorter stories. As Tolkien did not finish it was completed by his son Christopher Tolkien Christopher with assistance of the young Guy Gavriel Kay , who would later go on to a successful career as a fantasy author. The title Quenta Silmarillion is translated as the Tale of the Silmarils . Summary Tolkien envisaged the Silmarillion as deriving from a manuscript written by an Eriol or lfwine of England, an imaginary dark age source for the material, which itself contains little or no reference to the people or events of the Second Age Second or Third Age s of his legendarium . Originated from Elvish legends, in some parts it presents Elves as long gone, which hints that its final form was edited during the Fourth Age by Hobbit s and or Edain Men . It tells about the history of Arda the Earth , after its creation by Eru Il vatar . The Vala Middle earth Valar , angel ic beings, enter into the world and try to shape it after a vision given to them by Eru. The initial shape of Arda , chosen by the Valar, was of a symmetrical continent lit by the Two Lamps . However, the lamps were destroyed by the vicious Morgoth Melkor Arda was darkened, and the lamps fall spoiled the symmetry of Arda s surface. Two main continents were created that are of concern to the story Aman in the west, and Middle earth in the east. Following this, Melkor hid himself from the Valar ... 1. Round World version of the Silmarillion

Portal Middle earth The Round World version is one of the variants of J. R. R. Tolkien s legendarium , published in the final volumes of The History of Middle earth . In this version, the Earth was always round, and Arda was the name for the whole solar system instead of just the Earth. In the Round World version the Sun Middle earth Sun and the Moon Middle earth Moon were not the fruit of the Two Trees , but actually preceded the creation of the Trees. Instead, the Trees preserved the light of the Sun before it was tainted by Morgoth Melkor when he ravished Arien . While this version emerged in the late stage of Tolkien s legendarium, he never entirely decided which version Flat or Round to choose as real , and while Tolkien was eventually more inclined to use the Round World version, it was never as complete as the Flat World version, and so the latter was chosen by Christopher Tolkien for the published Silmarillion .
