Coxsackie Athens is a rural New York State school district located along the Hudson River, approximately 20 miles south of Albany. Known as C A, or the Indians , to people in the region, Coxsackie Athens has around 1,600 students K 12. A School District with a campus in the Athens village , New York Village of Athens , and the main campus in the Coxsackie village , New York Village of Coxsackie where the district office is located. The State Normal School was a normal school teaching college located in Athens, Georgia founded in 1891, whose function was later incorporated into the curricula of the University of Georgia . The institution first opened in a university owned facility but later moved to its own facility on Prince Avenue in an area that became known as Normaltown . NSCS occupies a convert 58 acre campus with a lengthy history. The site had been used as a school since the 1860s, first for the University of Georgia s University High School, then as a Confederate States of America Confederate military school, and at the end of the U.S. Civil War , a federal garrison. In 1866, the site housed a school for disabled young Confederate veterans, which existed with state support for two years then as a State Normal School Athens, Georgia state normal school . The Base Realignment and Closure BRAC Commission of 2005 decreed that NSCS will be closed here and re located to Naval Station Newport , Rhode Island in 2011. In January 2010 the school s commander, Captain John Titus Jr., 45, was relieved of command by the head of Naval Education and Training Command , Rear Admiral Joseph Kilkenny, because of a lack of confidence in his Titus ability to lead.
