  1. Boat race (game)

Do not make references to specific regional variations of Boat Racing in this article. Refimprove date January 2008 A boat race , called thus because of the chants of SKULL from spectators are like in a rowing regatta, is a drinking game between usually two teams of equal numbers. Rules vary widely but normally involve a team drinking in series and aiming to finish first. Common rules include those regulating the number and gender of drinkers, the vessels from which the liquid must be consumed and punishments for spilling. The game is common in some university cultures and appeared in the Broken Lizard movie Beerfest . A race begins with all competitors placing their drinks on a mutual table. When a referee begins the race, the first drinker on each team is allowed to pick up their drink and begin drinking. Once a beverage is consumed, the drinker must invert the empty vessel on their head. This is done to ensure no cheating occurs. The next team mate cannot touch his or her drink until this has occurred. Empty vessels must kept on the competitors head until the race is over. Those who play Ultimate sport Frisbee also know a boat race as a race between multiple people instead of teams. A flying disk is turned upside down and 4 5 beers are poured into it, upon which each person attempts to drink one full disk as fast as possible while racing each other. Australia Boat races are a particular feature of university life in Australia, with competitions between different year levels, faculties and universities. 1. Bristol Boat Race

Refimprove date July 2009 The Bristol Boat Race also called The Varsity Boat Race is an annual event between the University of the West of England UWE and the University of Bristol , held on the historic Bristol Harbour . It is usually held in the summer term after the Easter break, though in the first years of the event was often held in February. In the early years of the event the University of Bristol dominated the event, but in recent years UWE has become a much greater force and the event has become hotly contested. It has been an instrumental force in improving the calibre of both clubs, with the fierce rivalry driving each club on to the pinnacle of university rowing. The course runs from the Cumberland Basin towards the Bristol City Centre and finishes 1.25km later at Canon s Wharf Amphitheatre. Several course changes have been proposed in recent years, due to the nature of the bends providing each side with significant advantages at different stages of the course. However these have made it into an excellent spectator event since it is often hard to tell exactly who will win as crews come around the final bend to the finish.
