It was created in 1628 for Nicholas Tufton, 1st Earl of Thanet Nicholas Tufton, 1st Baron Tufton . He had already succeeded as second Baronet of Hothfield in 1631 and been created Baron Tufton , of Tufton in the County of Sussex, in 1626, also in the Peerage of England. The Baronetcy , of Hothfield in the County of Kent, was created in the Baronetage of England in 1611 for his father, John Tufton. Lord Thanet was succeeded by his son, the second Earl.     The Thanet Bombers Australian Rules Football Club is Kent s first and only Australian Rules Football Club, formed in 2006. The club is currently inactive due to a poor level of interest in playing the game in east Kent at this time. The team participated in the Aussie Rules UK National League for the first and only time in 2007. The club had previously been known as the Bombardiers.     The Thanet Belle was a named train run by the Southern Region of British Railways from 1948 until it was withdrawn in 1958 due to the railway electrification in Great Britain electrification of the route. It ran from London Victoria railway station Londonn Victoria to Margate railway station Margate , Broadstairs railway station Broadstairs and Ramsgate railway station Ramsgate .
