The Oleta River , situated north of Miami , drains the northern Everglades into Biscayne Bay , allowing freshwater to reach the Atlantic Ocean . Today, it is the only natural river in Miami Dade County that has not been Dredging dredged and River engineering Channelization channelized . Its seven miles 11  km of shoreline are largely undeveloped, making the Oleta River Corridor a vestige of wilderness in a matrix of urbanization. Between the Everglades and Biscayne Bay, over six miles 10  km of trail have been developed for use by off road vehicle s slightly more than a mile of expert singletrack, a half mile of intermediate singletrack, almost three miles 5  km of novice singletrack, and more than two miles 3  km of paved pathway. They all connect in what is essentially an out and back , but various loops of different lengths and difficulties can be ridden off the main out and back. The extinct Tequesta Tequesta Indians canoed the waters of the Oleta River over 400 years ago and today, a Tequesta village and midden site is preserved nearby as a reminder of the river s past human history . This area now represents one of the last wilderness areas available to wildlife in northern Miami Dade County. Unreferenced date June 2008 Image Gold Coast Florida.png thumb Location of Florida s Gold Coast. The Gold Coast is the region of the southeastern coast of the U.S. state of Florida between Tequesta, Florida Tequesta and Florida City, Florida Florida City . The region consists of the long urban cluster that runs along the eastern shores of Palm Beach County Palm Beach , Broward County Broward , and Miami Dade County also called the South Florida metropolitan area . It includes the cities of Miami, Florida Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Florida Fort Lauderdale as well as West Palm Beach, Florida West Palm Beach , Palm Beach Gardens, Florida Palm Beach Gardens , Boca Raton, Florida Boca Raton , Pompano Beach, Florida Pompano Beach and Hollywood, Florida Hollywood . The name Gold Coast comes from the coins that occasionally wash up on the shore in the area. Citation needed date August 2008 This is due to a large number of Spanish Galleons that sank off the coast carrying large amounts of gold and silver coins. However, the term is also used as a double entendre to indicate the fabulous wealth that has accrued in the area, especially near the coast such as Miami Beach, Palm Beach, etc , including Donald Trump s 125 million estate. Used in that sense, the Gold Coast wouldn t really include the entire South Florida area, just that part east of U.S. 1 or, some would say, the Intracoastal Waterway .
