Rainforest of the Austrians is an environment protection project was founded by Michael Schnitzler , an Austrian violinist and grandson of the poet Arthur Schnitzler , as a non profit organization . Its goal is raising funds to buy properties in the Esquinas Rainforest which is 146.7 square kilometres big and located in the south of Costa Rica . These properties become part of the Piedras Blancas National Park . This area of the rainforest was owned by local farmers. In 1991 the government of Costa Rica has declared the area as a National Park to protect the forest against the clearing. But there has not been enough money for buying the whole forest and the government has needed foreign help for realizing their environmental protection plan. Rainforest Partnership is an Austin based non profit corporation 501 c 501 c 3 501 c 3 dedicated to protecting tropical rainforests. Its goal is to help rainforest communities become economically self sufficient without deforestation, while educating U.S. communities about the crucial role rainforests play in climate protection. It serves to link communities located in and around Latin American rainforests with partner communities in the U.S. Projects aim to create and support sustainable economic alternatives to deforestation and give local communities a stake in preserving their forests. Depending on the nature of the forest and the local community, this involves creating a market in the United States for shade grown crops such as acai berries, cacao, or coffee, medicinal plants, palm trees or for crafts made by local artisans. The Quinault Rain Forest is a temperate rain forest , which is part of the Olympic National Park and the Olympic National Forest in the U.S. state of Washington U.S. state Washington in Grays Harbor County and Jefferson County. The rain forest is located in the valley formed by the Quinault River and Lake Quinault . The valley is called the Valley of the Rain Forest Giants because of the number of record size tree species located there. The largest specimens of Western Red Cedar , Sitka Spruce , Western Hemlock , Alaskan Cedar and Mountain Hemlock are found in the forest as well as five of the top ten largest Douglas fir s. The forest receives an average of 12 feet of rain per year. It is believed to be the area with the greatest number of record size giant tree species in the smallest area in the world.
