Luigi Braschi Onesti 1745 1816 , duca di Nemi , was a nephew of Pope Pius VI , who granted him his dukedom. Luigi s mother Giulia Braschi was Pius s sister, and his father was conte Girolamo Onesti On Luigi s marriage to the richest lady of the Falconieri family, he was granted permission by Pius to build Palazzo Braschi off Piazza Navona , and from 1787 and 1795 he built another neoclassical Palazzo Braschi at Terracina , as a private residence for his uncle. Construction on his Rome palazzo was suspended from February 1798 1802 during the Napoleonic occupation of the city, when the French occupied the house and confiscated the recently acquired antiquities Onesti had housed there. Brachi Onesti moved into the palazzo in 1809, when Napoleon declared Rome an imperial city, and was declared mayor of Rome, though the palazzo was still unfinished at his death seven years later. File douard Branly 1.jpg thumb right 300px douard Branly douard Eug ne D sir Branly October 23, 1844 March 24, 1940 was a France French inventor , physicist and professor at the Institut Catholique de Paris . He is primarily known for his early involvement in wireless telegraphy and his invention of the Branly coherer around 1890. Biography The coherer was the first widely used detector radio detector for radio communication. Branly built upon the discoveries of Temistocle Calzecchi Onesti , who demonstrated in experiments in 1884 through 1886 that iron filings contained in an insulating tube will conduct an electrical current under the action of an electromagnetic wave . The operation of the coherer is based upon the large resistance offered to the passage of electric current by loose metal filings, which decreases under the influence of radio frequency alternating current . The coherer became the basis for radio reception, and remained in widespread use for about ten years, until about 1907. British radio pioneer Oliver Joseph Lodge Oliver Lodge made the coherer into a practical receiver by adding a decoherer which tapped the coherer after each reception to dislodge clumped filings, thus restoring the device s sensitivity. It was further developed by Guglielmo Marconi , then replaced about 1907 by crystal detector s. In 1890, Branly ref Variations of Conductivity under Electrical Influences, By Edouard Branly.
