  1. Systematic name

A systematic name is a name given in a systematic way to one unique group, organism, object or chemical substance , out of a specific population or collection. Systematic names are usually part of a nomenclature . br A semisystematic name or semitrivial name is a name that has at least one systematic part and at least one trivial name trivial part. ref Stedman s Medical Dictionary http www.mondofacto.com facts dictionary?semisystematic name semisystematic name ref ref GoldBookRef title semisystematic name semitrivial name file S05601 ref Creating systematic names can be as simple as assigning a prefix or a number to each object in which case they are a type of numbering scheme , or as complex as encoding the complete structure of the object in the name. Many systems combine some information about the named object with an extra sequence number to make it into a unique identifier . Systematic names often co exist with earlier common names assigned before the creation of any systematic naming system. For example, many common chemicals are still referred to by their common or trivial names, even by chemists. 1. Systematic element name

A systematic element name is the temporary name and Chemical symbol symbol assigned to newly synthesized and not yet synthesized chemical element s. In chemistry , a transuranium element transuranic element receives a permanent name and symbol only after its synthesis has been confirmed. In some cases, this has been a protracted and highly political process see element naming controversy . In order to discuss such elements without ambiguity, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry IUPAC uses a set of rules to assign a temporary systematic name and symbol to each such element. This approach to naming originated in the successful development of regular IUPAC nomenclature of organic chemistry rules for the naming of organic compounds . The IUPAC rules align right class wikitable style margin left 0.5em   digit     root   symbol align center 0 nil n align center 1 un u align center 2 b i b align center 3 tr i t align center 4 quad q align center 5 pent p align center 6 hex h align center 7 sept s align center 8 oct o align center 9 en n e The temporary names are derived systematically from the element s atomic number . Each digit is translated to a numerical root , according to the table to the right. The roots are concatenation concatenated , and the name is completed with the ending ium . Some of the roots are Latin and others are Greek language Greek the reason is to avoid two digits starting with the same letter. 1. Systematic code

In coding theory , a systematic code is any error correcting code in which the input data is embedded in the encoded output. Conversely, in a non systematic code the output does not contain the input symbols. Systematic codes have the advantage that the parity data can simply be appended to the source block, and receivers do not need to recover the original source symbols if received correctly &ndash this is useful for example if error correction coding is combined with a hash function for quickly determining the correctness of the received source symbols, or in cases where errors occur in erasure channel erasures and a received symbol is thus always correct. 1. Systematic sampling

Systematic sampling is a statistics statistical method involving the selection of elements from an ordered sampling frame . The most common form of systematic sampling is an equal probability method, in which every k sup th sup element in the frame is selected, where k , the sampling interval sometimes known as the skip , is calculated as ref name ken black india cite book title Business Statistics for Contemporary Decision Making author Ken Black edition Fourth Wiley Student Edition for India publisher Wiley India isbn 9788126508099 year 2004 ref math k frac Nn math where math n math is the sample size, and math N math is the population size. Using this procedure each element in the population has a known and equal probability of selection. This makes systematic sampling functionally similar to simple random sampling . It is however, much more efficient if variance within systematic sample is more than variance of population . The researcher must ensure that the chosen sampling interval does not hide a pattern. Any pattern would threaten randomness. A random starting point must also be selected. Systematic sampling is to be applied only if the given population is logically homogeneous, because systematic sample units are uniformly distributed over the population. Example Suppose a supermarket wants to study buying habits of their customers, then using systematic sampling they can choose every 10 sup th sup or 15 sup th sup customer entering the supermarket and conduct the study on this sample. Unsystematic risk can be mitigated through diversification finance diversification , and systematic risk can not be. ref http www.investopedia.com terms u unsystematicrisk.asp ref Systematic risk should not be confused with systemic risk , the risk of loss from some catastrophic event that collapses the entire financial system . Example For example, consider an individual investor who purchases 10,000 of stock in 10 biotechnology companies. If unforeseen events cause a catastrophic setback and one or two companies stock prices drop, the investor incurs a loss. On the other hand, an investor who purchases 100,000 in a single biotechnology company would incur ten times the loss from such an event. The second investor s portfolio has more unsystematic risk than the diversified portfolio. Finally, if the setback were to affect the entire industry instead, the investors would incur similar losses, due to systematic risk. 1. Systematic desensitization

Systematic desensitization is a type of behaviour therapy behavioral therapy used in the field of psychology to help effectively overcome phobias and other anxiety disorders . More specifically, it is a type of Pavlovian therapy classical conditioning therapy developed by a South African psychiatrist, Joseph Wolpe . To begin the process of systematic desensitization, one must first be taught relaxation skills in order to extinguish fear and anxiety responses to specific phobias. Once the individual has been taught these skills, he or she must use them to react towards and overcome situations in an established hierarchy of fears. The goal of this process is that an individual will learn to cope and overcome the fear in each step of the hierarchy, which will lead to overcoming the last step of the fear in the hierarchy. Systematic desensitization is sometimes called graduated exposure therapy. Specific phobias are one class of mental illness often treated through the behavior therapy or Cognitive therapy cognitive behavioral process of systematic desensitization. When individuals possess irrational fears of an object, such as height, dogs, snakes, and close spaces, they tend to avoid it. Since escaping from the phobic object reduces their anxiety, patients behavior to reduce fear is reinforced through negative reinforcement, a concept defined in operant conditioning . The goal of Systematic Desensitization is to overcome this avoidance pattern by gradually exposing patients to the phobic object until it can be tolerated. In classical and operant conditioning terms the elicitation of the fear response is extinguished to the stimulus or class of stimuli . 1. Systematic survey

Systematic survey or extensive survey is the archaeology archaeological technique of detailed examination of an area for the purpose of recording the location and significance of archaeological resources. It provides a regional perspective by gathering information on settlement patterns over a large area. It is one of the basic fieldwork strategies used by paleoanthropologists and archaeologists . The regional survey answer questions pertaining to the site s location, the size of the settlement, their types of buildings, and the age of the site. Usually the surveyor walks over the area and records the site locations and their size. During this process, the surveyor tries to date the site to see when it was occupied. B. Nuseibeh, Boston Springer, 2007 , 369 418. ref is a software Unit test unit testing method based on the two notions of lazy specification , the ability to infer the evolving specification of a unit on the fly by dynamic analysis, and systematic testing , the ability to explore and test the unit s state space exhaustively to bounded depths. A testing toolkit JWalk exists to support lazy systematic unit testing in the Java programming language Java programming language ref name jwalk The JWalk Home Page , http www.dcs.shef.ac.uk ajhs jwalk ref . Lazy Specification Lazy specification refers to a flexible approach to formal specification software specification , in which a specification evolves rapidly in parallel with frequently modified code ref name ASE . The specification is inferred by a semi automatic analysis of a prototype software unit. This can include static code analysis static analysis of the unit s interface and dynamic program analysis dynamic analysis of the unit s behaviour . The dynamic analysis is usually supplemented by limited interaction with the programmer. The term Lazy specification is coined by analogy with lazy evaluation in functional programming . The latter describes the delayed evaluation of sub expressions, which are only evaluated on demand. The analogy is with the late stabilization of the specification, which evolves in parallel with the changing code, until this is deemed stable.
