The current editor is Charlotte Hart and the sports editor is Michael Beardmore. Unreferenced date November 2006 The High Steward of SuttonColdfield was an office relating to the government of the town of SuttonColdfield , Warwickshire , England . History Prior to the Royal Charter of 1528, Walter Devereux, 1st Viscount Hereford Walter Devereux, Lord Ferrers of Chartley held the office of under the Crown . He also held office as Bailiff of the Manor, Keeper of the Rolls and Keeper of Coldfield Walk. The salaries for these posts, under a grant of 1525 were to be paid at the rate of 16 a year to him and his son Henry for life. On the granting of the Charter the town was to be held by a Warden and Society roughly equivalent to Mayor and Corporation and the inhabitants of the town. The Charter granted the right to appoint a High steward civic High Steward although this right was not exercised until 1547. The High Stewards were appointed for life and were to be entitled to a Deputy to assist in the High Steward s duty of holding courts. At least in the 16th century the High Steward was expected to have a knowledge of English law but the role soon became symbolic, the duties largely ceremonial and latterly the work was done entirely by Deputies. The High Stewards were all persons of standing and mostly members of aristocratic Warwickshire and Staffordshire families. In 1974 the Corporation of SuttonColdfield merged with that of Birmingham and the office of High Steward became extinct. History The transmitter was the main 405 line ITV transmitter for the Midlands from 1956 until 1985. It includes a convert 305.2 m ft 0 tall radio masts and towers guyed mast and was built in 1961. The original mast looked akin to the Eifel tower and was dismatled in 1965. 625 line colour transmitters for the region were all co sited at the nearby Sutton Coldfield transmitting station until 1997, when Lichfield began broadcasting Channel 5 UK Channel 5 in the Midlands. At 1000 kW it was the most powerful Channel 5 transmitter in the country. Before the digital switchover, lichfield effectively worked in conjunction with Sutton Coldfield 4 miles to the SW to supply the full five analogue channels. Yosami TransmittingStation used as Antenna radio antenna a wire antenna system, which was spun between 8 guyed masts, each 250 metres tall and Insulator electrical insulated against Ground electricity ground . The masts of Yosami transmittingstation were at its completion in 1929 Japan s tallest architectural structure. Yosami TransmittingStation played an important role in World War II for transmitting news to axis powers Germany and Italy and for transmitting messages to submarines under water. After 1950 the transmitters were used by the US. Navy. although the masts were repainted in 1985, in 1993 the station was shut down and became a beautiful flower park. However, the transmitter and building as well as the bottom section of one of the masts is moved and rebuilt as a museum a short way from the original site. It was built in 1933 and uses as antenna a T antenna between two 152 metre tall guyed masts separated by a distance of 159 metres. Originally the station used cage antennas around each mast. The station uses the frequencies 882  kHz with 100  kW, 1089  kHz with 50  kW and 1215  kHz with 50  kW. In the old transmitter building, there is today a radio museum.
