The slit sensilla is a small mechanoreceptory organ in the exoskeleton of spider s which detects Deformation mechanics strain due to forces experienced by the animal. As the name indicates, a slit sensilla is a small groove in the exoskeleton which deforms under stress, and these deformations are detected by neurons. Multiple issues unreferenced August 2009 expert subject January 2009 disputed January 2009 Gill slits are individual openings to gills , i.e., multiple gill arches, which lack a single outer cover. Such gills are characteristic of Cartilaginous fish such as shark s, Batoidea rays , sawfish , and guitarfish . Most of these have five pairs, but a few species have 6 or 7 pairs. The anterior edge of a gill slit is motile, moving outward to allow water to exit, but closing to prevent reverse flow. In contrast, Bony fishes have a single outer bony gill covering called an Operculum fish operculum . The term gill slits has also been used to refer to the folds of skin in the pharyngeal region in embryos. The true gill slits in embryonic fish develop into gills. However, the slits in vertebrate do not, so a better modifier for the vertebral structures is pharyngeal , as in pharyngeal slits and pharyngeal arches. In the 19th century, pharyngeal slits of vertebrate embryos were erroneously thought to be actual gills or precursor slits to gills, so thought then to be support for the recapitulation theory . These pharyngeal arch s exist in all vertebrates at some time in their embryo stage in mammal s, bird s, and reptile s , and develop into a number of permanent structures in and away from the throat area and the bones in the ear. When the vertebrate reaches a certain point in its life the arches fuse together and form other structures such as the trachea and ear bones, and contribute to major blood vessels. Despite evidence to the contrary some books on evolution still use the supposed gill slits as evidence for evolution. In South Africa in their grade 12 text books this error still appears as evidence that mammal embryo s go through a fish like stage. The objective is to make testing easier by providing a simple way to set and observe every Flip flop electronics flip flop in an Integrated circuit IC .The basic structure of scan include the following set of signals in order to control and observe the scan mechanism. Scan in and scan out define the input and output of a scan chain. In a full scan mode usually each input drives only one chain and scan out observe one as well . A scan enable pin is a special signal that is added to a design. When this signal is asserted, every flip flop in the design is connected into a long shift register . Unreferenced date December 2009 Orphan date December 2009 On computer network s, a service scan identifies the services running on a list of open ports. This is closely tied to port scanning and some tools e.g. nmap , Nessus software nessus support both. A service scan is preferable to referring to a list of TCP and UDP port numbers port list , as it can identify services running on non standard ports, which is common in practice. Service scanners work by sending some probe data to the port, and monitoring the response. For example, sending GET as a probe could detect a web server, and the exact response will give some indication which server. Multiple probes will be sent to identify less common services. The nmap service scan captures information from unidentified ports, and users are encouraged to submit details of these, which will be included in updates. Almost all vulnerability scanner s have a built in service scan. For example, Nessus software Nessus uses the find service plugin to perform a service scan. The results of the service scan are used to determine which tests to run against each port. See also Port scan DEFAULTSORT Service Scan Category Computer network security ... more details

orphan date December 2007 The HEART scan is a rapid assessment tool for identifying haemodynamically significant cardiac abnormalities in the critical care setting. It is similar to the Focused assessment with sonography for trauma scan in concept, although it is directed at the heart rather than the abdomen. Often called a Calcium Scan it provides a score that can be used to determine the risk of a coronary event. Unlike an EKG which would mostly show the results of past heart attacks and Thallium Stress Test which only shows up advanced blockages of 70 or more . It is an excellent way to determine if a person has Coronary Arterial Disease. Aims The aims of the HEART scan are to assess Detect Cardiovascular Disease Haemodynamic status eg hypovolaemia Heart valve lesions Pericardial effusion Views Used The views used by a HEART scan are the same as or a subset of the full transthoracic views. Views are obtained from up to three windows where possible Parasternal Window Apical Window Subcostal Window Positive Result A positive result on a HEART scan will indicate that there is a clinically significant abnormality in cardiac status. This test is graded using the Agatston Score . It is recommended for men over 35 and women over 45 with a history of smoking or family heart disease. Scan Furniture was a retailer of modern Scandinavia n furniture that operated six stores in the metropolitan Baltimore Washington, D.C. area. Unusually, it was founded in 1960 in a Greenbelt, Maryland , grocery store the Greenbelt Cooperative , where its success led to it getting its own store. It remained part of the cooperative until about 1988, when the Greenbelt Cooperative entered into bankruptcy reorganization and Scan Furniture was sold to a private firm. It was based in Rockville, Maryland , with a distribution center in Columbia, Maryland Columbia . On Dec. 24th 2007 SCAN filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, according to a report in the Baltimore Business Journal. Its sales dropped 25 million to 17 million from 2005 to 2007, according to court papers filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Baltimore.
