other Lia Liath Luachra , the Gray of Luachair , is the name of two characters in the Fenian Cycle of Irish mythology . Both appear in The Boyhood Deeds of Fionn , which details the young life and adventures of the hero Fionn mac Cumhaill . The first Liath Luachra is one of Fionn s foster mothers who raise him after the death of his father Cumhal at the hands of Goll mac Morna . She is a great warrior and a companion of Fionn s aunt, the druidess Bodhmall together they raise the boy in secret in the forest of Slieve Bloom Mountains Sliabh Bladhma . Eventually Fionn s ever spreading fame threatens to bring his father s killers to him, and his caretakers send him to find his own way. By this point they have taught him enough that he can survive on his own, and he goes into the king of Bantry s service. The second Liath Luachra is a tall, hideous warrior and a member of the Fianna . He had been an enemy of Cumhal, and even dealt him the first blow in the battle at which he died. Later Goll mac Morna gave him possession of Cumhal s treasures, and made him the Fianna s official treasurer. His corrbolg or crane bag is one of the warrior band s great treasures. Eventually he kills a young warrior named Glonda Fionn sees the man s mother crying blood over the murder and decides to avenge him. He kills Liath easily and takes his treasure from him. This Liath has a son, Con n mac Lia , who becomes lord of Luchair and a marauder against Fionn and the Fianna. He is eventually reconciled with the group and joins them. Knockatallon Development Committee Knockatallon Development Committee was set up in 1994 with the aim of bringing some social and economic regeneration to the locality. The reopening of the border roads had brought with it a new air of optimism and the Development Committee decided that this was the ideal time to fully develop the potential of the area. In 1994 the Tydavnet Parish Strategy was carried out by Professors Murray and Greer from The Queen s University , Belfast . This strategy highlighted the need for an accommodation base in North County Monaghan . Hence the Committee decided to develop the local hall, which had been built with voluntary labour in the early 1950s, to include a bar, restaurant, function room and 14 en suite bedrooms. Work began on this tourism project in May 1999 and was opened in July 2000. Now managed by Knockatallon Development Company Ltd, the group have been the recipients of Co. Refimprove date July 2011 In Folk music of Ireland Irish traditional music , a slide is a tune type in 12 8 akin to, and often confused with, a single jig . Slides originated the Sliabh Luachra region of southwestern Ireland . Though slides contain the same number of beats per tune as a single jig, melodies are phrased in four rather than two beats. Consequently, single jigs are notated as having eight bars per part and slides as having four bars. Furthermore, the pace is quicker than single jigs, often around 150bpm. While single jigs are often danced solo by Irish stepdance step dancers , slides are usually danced in groups by Set dancing set dancers , sometimes in sets with Polka polkas . Iarmhumhain older spellings Iarmuman , Iarmumu or Iarluachair was a Kingdom in the early Christian period of Ireland in west Munster . Its ruling dynasty was related to the main ruling dynasty of Munster known as the E ganachta . Its ruling branch was called the E ganacht Locha L in or Ui Chairpri L achra. Their center was around Killarney , County Kerry at Loch L in . The name Iarluachair means west of the Sliabh Luachra mountains. The dynasty was established in the 5th century with the kingdom becoming semi independent of the Munster kings at Cashel, County Tipperary Cashel in the 6th century. They ruled over smaller kingdoms in west Munster such as the Ciarraige Luachra , Corcu Duibne and Corcu Lo gde and at the height of their power may have ruled over areas of west Thomond including the Corcu Baiscinn and Corco Mruad and perhaps even had some sovereignty over the U Fidgenti of County Limerick and the E ganacht Raithlind of County Cork . Their power was broken in the late 8th and early 9th centuries. The transference of the overlordship of the Ciarraige Luachra to direct Cashel control in the reign of Feidlimid mac Cremthanin died 846 signified this. The last time the title King of Iarmuman was used in the Annals of Innisfallen was 791 and in the Annals of Ulster 833. The dynasty then begins to use the title king of Loch L in.
