Silius or Silas Titus 1623 1704 , of Bushey , was an English politician, captain of Deal Castle , and Gentleman of the Bedchamber to Charles II of England King Charles II . Early Life He was born in London, the son of Silas Titus, a salter and Constatia Constance Colley. He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford , where he matriculated in 1638, and the Middle Temple. Killing No Murder Image KillingNoMurder1.jpg thumb 184px Photo of the French edition of Killing No Murder Titus began his political aspirations by writing a pamphlet titled Killing No Murder in 1657 during The Protectorate period of the English Interregnum era of English history. The pamphlet advocated the assassination of Oliver Cromwell . Due to the danger involved in writing such a politically charged opinion against the Protector, Killing No Murder was published under the pseudonym William Allen . Cromwell was said to have been so disturbed after the publication of Killing No Murder that he never spent more than two nights in the same place and always took extreme precaution in planning his travel. Titus authorship of this pamphlet has been disputed in some circles it has also been attributed to Edward Sexby or a man by the real name of William Allen. These attributions are usually unfounded as Charles II of England King Charles II awarded Titus the title of Gentleman of the Bedchamber for his service in authoring the work. Political life Silius Titus first took up arms for the Parliament . Marcus Silius Messala born ca.160 AD fl.193 AD Marcus Silius Messala was a Roman Politician, senator and suffect consul towards the end of the 2nd century. In 193 AD, Messala was from May until June the Suffect Consul of Rome. He was in command of the location where the murder of Pertinax took place. Septimus Severus accused Messala of murdering Pertinax and placing on the throne the Senator Didius Julianus after using his influence to convene and order the Senate to do so. Septimius Severus calls the death of Didius Julianus divine providence and ordered the execution of Messala. It is however possible though unlikely that this is the same senator Marcus Silius Messala condemned to death in the year 218 AD by the then Emperor Elegabalus . It is more likely though that the second Messala was a son of this senator. s start s off s bef before Quintus Pompeius Sosius Falco , br Gaius Iulius Erucius Clarus Vibianus s ttl title List of late imperial Roman consuls Consul of the Roman Empire years 193 regent1 Lucius Fabius Cilo s aft after Septimius Severus , br Clodius Albinus s end Literature Prosopographia Imperii Romani PIR S 724, 725 References 1. otheruses Naulochus , Naulochos , or Naulocha Greek language Greek polytonic in Appian , meaning safe ship sheltering ref Inductive scrutinies focus on Joyce By Fritz Senn, Christine O Neill Page 115 ISBN 0801852145 ref , was an ancient city on the north coast of Sicily , between Mylae modern Milazzo and Cape Pelorus . It is known primarily from the great Battle of Naulochus sea fight in which Sextus Pompeius was defeated by Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa , 36 BC 36 BCE , and which was fought between Mylae and Naulochus. Suetonius Suet. Aug. 16 Appian, B.C. v. 116 22. Pompeius himself during the battle had been encamped with his land forces at Naulochus Appian l. c. 121 , and after his victory, Octavian , in his turn, took up his station there, while Agrippa and Lepidus advanced to attack Messana modern Messina . Id. 122. It is clear from its name that Naulochus was a place where there was a good roadstead or anchorage for shipping. Some have doubted its existence as a populated place, but Silius Italicus includes it in his list of Sicilian cities. Sil. Ital. xiv. 264. From the description in Appian it is clear that it was situated between Mylae and Cape Rasoculmo the Phalacrian Promontory of Ptolemy , and probably not very far from the latter point but there is nothing to fix its site more definitely. The editors of the Barrington Atlas of the Greek and Roman World place it near the modern comune of Spadafora .
