Betton was a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives 1797 1799 and a member of the New Hampshire Senate 1801 1803. He was elected as a Federalist to the Eighth and Ninth Congresses March 4, 1803 March 3, 1807 . After Congress, he resumed the practice of law and again a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives in 1810 and 1811. He also served as high sheriff of Rockingham County 1813 1818. orphan date November 2009 Silas Wheeler , called Captain , was a soldier in the army of the American Revolution , and the founder of the town of Wheeler, New York Wheeler , Steuben County, New York Steuben County , New York . He was born on March 7, 1752 or 1753 at Concord, Massachusetts , and died on November 28, 1828, at Wheeler, New York. Revolutionary War He was at the Battle of Bunker Hill and accompanied Benedict Arnold on his expedition from Maine to Quebec . Many starved to death along the way, and others deserted. After several days with no food, a group of Indians brought Silas a Dog meat dog he said it was the sweetest food he had ever eaten. In Quebec, he was captured by the British and caught smallpox while in prison. Wheeler became bald from the illness and remained permanently so. After his exchange, he returned to Rhode Island, became a privateer, and was recaptured on the high seas by the British. He was sent to a prison camp at Kinsale in Ireland . After a year he escaped and was helped by Henry Grattan to make his way to a ship bound for Dunkirk , France, and thence to America. After the war he moved to Albany County, New York , then on to Steuben County, New York Steuben County where he founded the town of Wheeler. Born in Concord, Massachusetts , he pursued classical studies and graduated from Harvard University in 1784. He studied law, was Admission to the bar in the United States admitted to the bar , and was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 1793, 1797, and 1798. Lee was elected as a Federalist Party Federalist to the 6th United States Congress 6th and 7th United States Congress 7th Congresses and served from March 4, 1799, until August 20, 1801, when he resigned. He was appointed by President Thomas Jefferson to be United States Attorney for the District of Maine on January 6, 1802, and served until his death he was justice of the peace and of the quorum in 1803, and probate judge from 1805 to 1814. In 1810 he was chief judge of the Maine Court of Common Pleas Court of Common Pleas . He died in Wiscasset, Maine interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.
