  1. Shuttle vector

A shuttle vector is a Vector molecular biology vector usually a plasmid constructed so that it can propagate in two different host species http www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov sites entrez?db Books&cmd Search&term vector 20AND 20mcb 5Bbook 5D&doptcmdl TOCView . Therefore, DNA inserted into a shuttle vector can be tested or manipulated in two different cell types. The main advantage of these vectors is they can be manipulated in E. coli then used in a system which is more difficult or slower to use e.g. yeast, other bacteria . Shuttle vectors include plasmids that can propagate in eukaryotes and prokaryotes e.g. both Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Escherichia coli or in different species of bacteria e.g. both E. coli and Rhodococcus erythropolis . There are also adenovirus shuttle vectors, which can propagate in E. coli and mammals. Shuttle vectors are frequently used to quickly make multiple copies of the gene in E. coli amplification . They can also be used for in vitro experiments and modifications e.g. mutagenesis , PCR One of the most common types of shuttle vectors is the yeast shuttle vector http dbb.urmc.rochester.edu labs Sherman f yeast 9.html . Almost all commonly used S. cerevisiae vectors are shuttle vectors. Yeast shuttle vectors have components that allow for replication and selection in both E. coli cells and yeast cells. The E. coli component of a yeast shuttle vector includes an origin of replication and a selectable marker, e.g. antibiotic resistance, Beta lactamase . The yeast component of a yeast shuttle vector includes an autonomously replicating sequence ARS , a yeast centromere CEN , and a yeast selectable marker e.g. URA3 , a gene that encodes an enzyme for uracil synthesis, Lodish et al. 2007 . 1. Shuttle 2.03

Infobox Space Shuttle name 2.03 image caption number country Soviet Union contract named after first flight first date last flight last date missions crews time none orbits distance deployed dockings mir dockings iss status dismantled 2.03 was the designation of the fifth Soviet Shuttle Buran reusable space vehicle. 2.03 was a second series shuttle, as shown by the 2 in its number. Construction on 2.03 was barely underway when the entire Soviet shuttle program was halted in 1993, and as such what parts of it had been built were dismantled shortly afterwards, and nothing remained of it by 1995. Virtually no pictures of 2.03 exist due to its very short existence but its appearance would have been virtually identical to the other second series shuttles and very similar to the first series examples. As with shuttle 2.02 , 2.03 was never given a name. 1. Shuttle tanker

File Karen Knutsen.JPG thumb 400px Shuttle tanker Karen Knutsen in the 7th Petroleumharbour in the port of Rotterdam . A shuttle tanker is a ship designed for oil transport from an off shore oil field . It is equipped with off loading equipment compatible with the oil field in question. This normally consists of a taut hawser arrangement or dynamic positioning to maintain the position relative to the field, an off loading arrangement of pipes, and redundant safety systems to ensure that the potentially flammable crude oil is handled safely in a harsh environment. Shuttle tankers initially started operating in the North Sea . They are now in use also in Brazil , and trials have been carried out in Gulf Of Mexico . There are future plans to take up such operation in the arctic sea, north of western Russia . 1. Power shuttle

Orphan date February 2009 A power shuttle is an additional unit used in transmission mechanics transmissions and is generally used in agricultural tractor s. While the vehicle is moving forwards, the driver can pull a lever that makes it stop and go backwards at the same speed. Power Shuttle also know under various trade names such as Power Reverser etc. Power shuttle are incorporated in transmissions in three forms 1.Counter shaft transmissions 2.Full planetary power shifts 3.CVT IVT 1.Counter shaft transmissions In this case generally forward reverse synchronizers are replaced by the multi plate friction clutches. Typically the multi plate clutches are arranged on the main shaft or on the counter shaft. The forward reverse section of the gear box is generally located in the forward section as close to the engine as possible. This is beneficial to the forward reverse control elements as they are not subjected to the high relative torque. The challenge involved in providing this feature in the existing transmissions is the complex shaft arrangement. This problem arises due to the limitation of centre distance between the two shafts and fixed axial dimensions due to the vehicle size limitations. 2.Full Planetary power shift In this type of transmissions the planetary action is used for providing forward or reverse action to the gear box. 3.CVT IVT Here the automatic nature of the gear box takes care of the direction change by either engaging planetary sets or by engaging multi plate clutches or by some other means. Features of power shuttle transmissions. Power shuttle transmissions were invented for mining and earth moving applications. The needs in the areas were Quick shuttle response Left hand shuttle lever so that right hand is free for loader joystick Reducing driver fatigue.
