    File Bundesarchiv Bild 135 S 15 25 20, Tibetexpedition, Tibetische Tanzgruppe.jpg thumb 250px Ache Lhamo in front of Gongkar Dzong , 1939 Lhamo , or Ache Lhamo , which literally means sister goddess , is a Tibetan folk opera . It is a combination of dances, chants and songs. The repertoire is drawn from Buddhist stories and Tibetan history. The Tibetan opera was founded in the 14th century by Thang Tong Gyalpo , a Lama and a bridge builder. Gyalpo and seven recruited girls organized the first performance to raise funds for building bridges, which would facilitate transportation in Tibet . The tradition continued, and lhamo is held on various festive occasions such as the Linka and Shoton festival. The Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts at Dharamsala , runs an opera company, which produces shows to promote this art form. The festival is celebrated in the summer, from the 15th to the 24th of the 5th lunar month usually about the middle of August, after a month s retreat by the monks who stay within their monasteries to avoid walking on the emerging summer insects and killing them. Later on, summer operas, or Lhamo , and theatricals were added to the festivities. The operas, last all day with clashing cymbals, bells and drums piercing recitatives punctuating more melodious choruses hooded villains, leaping devils, swirling girls with long silk sleeves. There is much feasting and visiting between family groups and bonfires are common at night.     The China Ethnic Museum wikt wikt wikt pinyin Zh nghu M nz B w gu n also called Chinese Ethnic Culture Park , wikt wikt wikt pinyin Zh nghu M nz Yu n is a museum in Beijing , China , located just to the west of the Olympic Green . It features displays of the daily life and architecture of China s List of ethnic groups in China 56 ethnic groups . As stated on its website, the museum s goals are as follows To demonstrate ethical architecture To preserve ethical relics To spread ethical knowledge To study ethical heritage To enhance ethical culture To promote unity of all Chinese ethnic groups Construction began in October 1992. The North Section was opened to the public on June 18, 1994, and the South Section was opened in September 2001. Construction has continued through 2008 and will continue following the 2008 Summer Olympics . The museum covers approximately 50 hectares and so far comprises 44 ethnic villages and 200 ethnic buildings. There are 800 staff members comprising various Chinese ethnic groups. All buildings are constructed to a ratio of 1 1. At the museum, several ethnic groups grow traditional crops such as paddy rice or buckwheat, and each day Tibetan Buddhism Tibetan lamas from the Tar Monastery of Qinghai chant Buddhist sutras. The museum has also collected approximately 100,000 cultural relics, and exhibits items representing the daily life of China s ethnic groups. The museum s curator is Wang Ping.
