unreferenced date August 2011 Asynchronous Semaphore programming Semaphore is a structure that is being used in asynchronous programming models. It s goal is to lock an action to run only after other asynchronous actions have been executed. It got the name semaphore since it s a specific use of the abstract structure Semaphore programming semaphore in the world of asynchronous programming . The Semaphore programming semaphore concept was invented by Dutch computer scientist Edsger Dijkstra , the name Asynchronous Semaphore programming Semaphore and the specific usage in the asynchronous world was coined by Ohad Assulin , a computer scientist for the Hebrew University of Jerusalem . Upon creation, asynchronous semaphore receives a function as an argument, this argument is usually called the fire function . The fire function will get executed after the asynchronous actions will be done. Whereas the programmer calls asynchronous action that will get invoke later on sometimes , the programmer also calls the async semaphore s v function in order to increase the internal semaphore lock variable which represents the fact that this asynchronous action has been add to the queue and will run later sometimes. Whereas the callback of that asynchronous function is done running, the programmer calls the p function which decreases the internal lock variable. this represents the fact that the asynchronous action is done The p function also checks if the lock variable equals to 0, if it does, it means that all the async actions have been done running hence the fire function is allowed to get invoked. Asynchronous semaphore is efficient when the asynchronous actions are independent. Context date October 2009 Unreferenced date November 2006 Image PC watercooling T Line 2009 12 03.jpg right thumb 200px Typical single waterblock DIY Watercooling setup in a PC utilizing a T Line A T line is a simple alternative to a pressure tank , air trap or any other filling, bleeding, and draining device. It is constructed by plumbing a Tee connector tri barbed, with a perpendicular secondary flow pattern, shaped like the letter T into an existing tube thus creating an alternate flow path. However, instead of routing the secondary path back into the system flow, it is simply left open or closed off using an end barb or other capping device. The tube itself thus can act as a mini reservoir and allows air bubbles to travel into it as they are caught into the Tee connector, and ultimately travel out of the system bleeding . A common use for a T Line is in a watercooling system such as those found in enthusiast PCs. The T Line is an integral part of a do it yourself watercooling system alongside the traditional choice of a reservoir. Major reasons for choosing a T Line over a standard reservoir are cost, simplicity, and space constraints. Fill Ports example The fillport by DangerDen are specifically made with T Lines in mind, and serve the purpose of capping the T line in an air tight and re openable re sealable fashion. They are available anodized in various colors and thus able to be tied in with color schemes. Category Computer hardware cooling ... more details
