  1. Secession (art)

Secession lang de Sezession refers to a number of modernism modernist artist groups that separated from the support of official academic art and its administrations in the late 19th and early 20th century. The first secession from the official politics occurred in France, when, in 1890, the Salon au Champs de Mars was established, headed by Meissonnier and Puvis de Chavannes. In the years following artists in various European countries took up this impulse, primarily in Germany , Austria Hungary , and Belgium , which seceded from traditional art movement s and embraced progressive styles. The first secession outside France formed in Munich in 1892, soon followed by the Berlin Secession in the same year. The best known secession movement was the Vienna Secession formed in 1897, and included Gustav Klimt , who favoured the ornate Art Nouveau style over the prevailing styles of the time. The style of these artists, as practiced in Austria is known as Sezessionstil , or Secession style . Georg Hirth , the editor and publisher of Jugend lang en Youth from 1896 until his death in 1916, coined the term Secession to represent the spirit of the various modern and reactionary movements of the era. ref Nicolas Powell, review of C. Libertarianism sidebar Anarchism sidebar Economic secession has been variously defined by sources. In its broadest sense, it is abstention from the state s economic system for instance by replacing the use of government money with barter , Local Exchange Trading Systems , or commodity money such as gold . Variations Wendell Berry may have coined the term economic secession. He promoted his own version in his 1991 essay Conservation and Local Economy bquote If we are serious about reducing government and the burdens of government, then we need to do so by returning economic self determination to the people For example, as much as possible of the food that is consumed locally ought to be locally produced on small farms, and then processed in small, non polluting plants that are locally owned. We must do everything possible to provide to ordinary citizens the opportunity to own a small, usable share of the country. ref Berry, Wendell Conservation and local economy 1993 in Berry, Wendell Sex, economy, freedom, and community Pantheon Books, New York, pp. 3 18 ref John T. 1. Aventine Secession (20th century)

Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 The Aventine Secession was the withdrawal of the Italian Socialist Party from the Italian Chamber of Deputies in 1924 25, following the murder of Giacomo Matteotti . It was named after the Aventine Secession 494 BC Aventine Secession in ancient Rome, and heralded the assumption of total power by Benito Mussolini and his National Fascist Party and the establishment of a one party dictatorship. Background In 1923 the Acerbo Law replaced proportional representation . It meant that the largest party, providing it had at least 25 of the vote, gained 2 3 of the Italian Parliament parliamentary seats . Following the elections in April 1924, Mussolini obtained 2 3 of the votes anyway giving him a clear majority under either system. After his outspoken accusation of the Fascist Party s underhand methods of political corruption and Electoral fraud voter intimidation , the Socialist leader Giacomo Matteotti was abducted and murdered by Amerigo Dumini and various other thugs whose names were linked to the Fascist Party. There is considerable dispute among Historians as to the level if any of Mussolini s knowledge and involvement. The resulting uproar after the Matteotti murder left Mussolini vulnerable, having been forced to dismiss numerous members of his entourage, including General Emilio De Bono De Bono , Chief of Police and Head of the Blackshirts MVSN . In late July 1924, the Socialists began a boycott of parliament, with the aim of forcing the King to dismiss Mussolini. Outcome Without the socialists the vote of no confidence in Mussolini was a failure.
