The province has an area of 1,417.93 km and the government population estimate for 2002 is 49,302, with the 1993 census showing a population of 44,571. Agriculture is the predominant economic activity. Geography SantaCruzProvince s land area is 1,423 km , 4.2 of the total of the Cajamarca Region. It is mostly mountainous in relief. It is located on the Western Mountain range of the Andes and is bounded by the mountains that descend to the coast and the deep rivers that carve the mountains. Its lowest elevation is in the Sa a River, near the small village of Pan de Azucar, 265 meters above sea level, and highest in the Cerro Cimarrones, 3,600 meters above sea level, south of the town of Pul n. It is bounded to the North by Chota, to the East by Hualgayoc and Chota, to the South by San Miguel, and to the West by Lambayeque. Perito Moreno is a town in the northeast of SantaCruzProvinceArgentinaSantaCruzProvince , Argentina , 25 km east of Lake Buenos Aires . It should not be confused with the Perito Moreno National Park over 300 km south by road, or the Perito Moreno Glacier near El Calafate . The town is the capital of the Lago Buenos Aires Department . It lies on the RN43, a paved road which links Caleta Olivia on the Atlantic coast to Los Antiguos and the Chile Chilean frontier 60 km west, and Ruta 40 , running north and south. The town is a centre of cattle ranches and smallholdings producing fruit and vegetables. Tourism is also an important industry. Perito Moreno is the closest town to Cueva de las Manos , 170 km south by road, and Parque Laguna.
