Autry got the idea for the song after riding his horse in the 1946 SantaClaus Lane Parade in Los Angeles, California Los Angeles , during which crowds of spectators chanted, Here comes SantaClaus . This inspired him to write a song that Haldeman set to music. A demo recording was made by singer guitarist Johnny Bond , whose recording made use of ice cubes to mimic the sound of the jingling sleigh bells. This inspired the use of real sleigh bells in Autry s own recording of the song. Autry first recorded the song in 1947 released as a single by Columbia Records , it became a 5 country and 9 pop hit. The song first appeared in Autry s 1949 movie The Cowboy and the Indians . It has a thick outer green striped Peel fruit rind with a pale green inner Juice vesicles pulp that provides a mild melon flavor, that can be as sweet as honeydew melon s, if not moreso. A SantaClaus melon is usually consumed for breakfast , lunch , dessert , or as a snack. The melon should be slightly soft, especially on the ends, and should be washed, split in half length wise, and its seeds spooned out. It is similar to a cantelope on the inside. Growing season Grown in California and Arizona , SantaClaus melon season is harvested from June through October. During the winter months, SantaClaus melons are imported from South America. Description This variety is similar to the canary melon except the rind of the SantaClaus variety is a mottled green and yellow. The attractive green and gold to bright yellow striped SantaClaus melon somewhat resembles a small watermelon . Inside is a mellow and mildly flavored pale greenish flesh very similar to that of a honeydew but much sweeter.
