The Royal Navy Cyprus Squadron RNCS was a Royal Naval Squadron based on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus . It was formed in February 2003 in support of Operation Telic , the US led invasion of Iraq , and disbanded in April 2010. The squadron comprised two Archer class patrol vessel P2000 class patrol ships, HMS Pursuer P273 HMS Pursuer and HMS Dasher P280 HMS Dasher , these ships were reassigned to the Clyde Naval Base at Faslane in 2010. The ships were based at Akrotiri Mole near RAF Akrotiri and were employed in the protection of visiting ships and other British Forces Cyprus equipment designated as high value. The Squadron was also employed in Internal Security patrols of the Sovereign Base Areas SBA , and training for visiting Royal Navy ships.     William Cathcart 30 June 1782 1804 was a commander in the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars and son of Scottish peer William Cathcart, 1st Earl Cathcart . William joined the Royal Navy in August 1795 as a volunteer aboard HMS Melpomene . He was made a lieutenant 2 September 1801. He served on HMS Medusa 1801 and on 14th April, 1802 was made master and commander.     The Royal Navy Cricket Club is a cricket team representing the United Kingdom British Royal Navy and based at the United Services Recreation Ground , Portsmouth , Hampshire . The club was formed in 1863, although cricket is recorded as having been played by seamen since at least the 17th century. Between 1912 English cricket season 1912 and 1929 English cricket season 1929 some of the Navy s matches had first class cricket first class status, particularly those against other branches of the services, although they also played Cambridge University Cricket Club Cambridge University , Marylebone Cricket Club MCC , and in 1927 English cricket season 1927 the touring New Zealand cricket team New Zealanders . It is immediately superior to Rear Admiral Royal Navy Rear Admiral and is subordinate to the Admiral Royal Navy full admiral rank. The Royal Navy has had Vice Admirals since at least the 16th century. When the fleet was deployed the Vice Admiral would be in the leading portion or van acting as the deputy to the Admiral. In the Royal Navy the rank of Vice Admiral should be distinguished from the office of Vice Admiral of the United Kingdom , which is an Admiralty position usually held by a retired full Admiral United Kingdom Admiral , and that of Vice Admiral of the Coast , a now obsolete office dealing with naval administration in each of the maritime counties. The museum was founded by C.F. Klinck on 24 August 1853. The museum is sometimes regarded as the world s first naval museum, as it was the first collection of naval memorabilia open to the public. The collection The collection contains several decommissioned ships, much equipment used by the Norwegian, Allied and German navies and ship models, paintings and pictures. In the 1980s the Royal Norwegian Navy Library was transferred to the museum. The library s book collection started in 1805. The Museum and Library have a book collection of about 25,000 volumes. In addition the museum has preserved all of the navy s ship log books from 1814 to today. Parts of the Museum was however destroyed during an allied bombing raid on Horten in February 1945. The museum also preserves ship designs and has an archive of Navy rules and regulations from about 1750 to today, with about 4,500 volumes.     Unreferenced date December 2009 The Royal Australian Navy Memorial on ANZAC Parade, Canberra ANZAC Parade in Canberra , the national capital of Australia , honours the sailors who have served to protect the nation. In 10 July 1911, the Commonwealth Naval Forces were renamed the Royal Australian Navy . The RAN has served, in all oceans, in conflict and peace, since then. The memorial was unveiled by Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom Queen Elizabeth II on 3 March 1986, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the formation of the RAN.
