Other Roads in the place are Styx Hill Road heading west, and River Styx Road heading south. The primary building is the River Styx Market, at the base of Styx Hill. Along Rt. 57, a dam is noticeable to the north. Behind which is a preserved swamp. The history of River Styx lies in the first settlers in the early 1800s. Folklore has it that it is named so because, when these first settlers had arrived, the area inhabited much rattle snakes and bear. Appropriately, they called it River Styx, the mythical river between the living world and the Greek underworld. Ironically, in order to come to River Styx via Route 57, one must cross River Styx, a small creek that cuts through the lowland of the valley. Notable people Marvin B.
