Orphan date April 2010 refimprove date February 2010 GeorgiaMountain is a community and small plateau in Marshall County, Alabama , east of Brindlee Mountain . ref name gnis cite gnis id 118913 name GeorgiaMountain accessdate 2010 03 01 ref Prior to the American Civil War , Ira Rose Foster purchased about six miles of riverfront property. After the war, Foster moved his family from Georgia U.S. state Georgia to Alabama . He invited many of his friends to come with them, and they settled on a part of Brindlee Mountain that lies east of Long Hollow. The new inhabitants called the area GeorgiaMountain , in memory of their former home. The first 11 families that came with Foster were the Alford, Bolding, Brown, Eubanks, Evans, Fielding, McMinn, Malone, Hilburn, Rainwater and Turner families. They settled an area that until then had been an uninhabited wilderness, and was decidedly rural despite being situated just over a mile from Guntersville, Alabama Guntersville . Up into the 1980s, the area was mainly farmland, but this gave way as the agricultural lifestyle was largely abandoned. Today, the area is made up of mainly subdivisions and small plots of land, with very few traces of old homeplaces for which it was once known. Many of the first families still have descendants living on GeorgiaMountain, and most of the surviving founding members are buried in Mt. Carmel, Alabama Mt. Carmel Cemetery. distinguish Rocky Boy Rocky Bay is a small bay , with numerous rocks lying in the bay and at its entrance, situated immediately north of Ducloz Head along the south coast of South Georgia . The presence of this bay seems to have been first noted in 1819 by Admiral Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen Thaddeus Bellingshausen who roughly charted a small inlet in this approximate position. The name was in use prior to 1930 and was probably applied by sealers and whalers working in the area. coord 54 29 S 36 40 W display title usgs gazetteer Category Bays of South Georgia SouthGeorgia geo stub ... more details

see William H. Ashley Jedediah Strong Smith The RockyMountain Fur Company , sometimes called Ashley s Hundred , was organized in St. Louis, Missouri in 1823 by General William H. Ashley and Major Andrew Henry c. 1775 1832 . They posted advertisements in St. Louis newspapers seeking One Hundred enterprising young men . . . to ascend the river Missouri to its source, there to be employed for one, two, or three years. Among those hired were Jedediah Smith , the four Sublette brothers, including William Sublette William and Milton Sublette Milton , Jim Beckwourth , Thomas Fitzpatrick and David Edward Jackson , who in 1826, bought the Company and for the next seven years it continued to prosper. Other mountain men who worked for the Company were Jim Bridger , Joseph Meek , Robert Newell mountain man Robert Newell , George W. Ebbert , and Kit Carson . Major Henry s plan was formed in response to a July 1822 law prohibiting the sale of alcohol to Indians. Prior to this point, the fur trade had relied on Indians to do the actual trapping and hunting that produced the furs they were then brought to trading posts where, with increasing frequency, the Indians were given liquor both as an actual medium of exchange, and in order to render them pliant and easily cheated.
