File RichardOwen memorial Llangristiolus.jpg thumb Owen s memorial at St Cristiolus s Church, Llangristiolus , Anglesey RichardOwen 1839 16 February 1887 was a Welsh Calvinistic Methodist minister and preacher. Life and career RichardOwen was born in 1839 in Llangristiolus , Anglesey , in north Wales. His education was disrupted by the deaths of his father when Richard was 11 and, in the following year, of his brother. He began his work at a chapel called Cana in the area, later putting himself forward for an official position in the ministry of the Calvinistic Methodist church. He was permitted to preach in seven churches, and given financial support to attend the school in Llangefni , Anglesey. He started studying at the Calvinistic Methodists college in Bala, Gwynedd but found it hard to benefit from studying there because of his preaching commitments. He impressed the college s principal, Lewis Edwards , when both preached at a service in Blaenau Ffestiniog . After marrying in 1867 and a period in London, he was ordained in 1873. Based at Penmaenmawr on the north Wales coast, he was regarded as an inspiring preacher and his influence spread throughout Wales. ref name WBO After living in Denbigh and Aberystwyth , he died in Pentraeth , Anglesey, on 16 February 1887 he is buried at St Cristiolus s Church, Llangristiolus . ref name WBO cite web url http wbo.llgc.org.uk en s OWEN RIC 1839.html title Owen, Richard 1839 1887 , revivalist, Calvinistic Methodist minister first Richard last Thomas publisher National Library of Wales work Welsh Biography Online accessdate 25 June 2010 date 2009 ref References reflist Persondata Metadata see Wikipedia Persondata . RichardOwen Cambridge 14 February 1717 17 September 1802 was a Kingdom of Great Britain British poet . Cambridge was born in London . He was educated at Eton College Eton and at St John s College, Oxford St John s College , Oxford . Leaving the university without taking a degree, he took up residence at Lincolns Inn in 1737. Four years later he married, and went to live at his country seat of Whitminster , Gloucestershire . In 1751 he removed to Twickenham, where he enjoyed the society of many notable persons. Horace Walpole in his letters makes many jesting allusions to Cambridge in the character of newsmonger. His chief work is the Scribleriad 1751 , a mock epic poem, the hero of which is the Martinus Scriblerus of Alexander Pope , John Arbuthnot and Jonathan Swift . The poem is preceded by a dissertation on the mock heroic, in which he avows Cervantes as his master. The satire shows considerable learning, and was eagerly read by literary people but it never became popular, and the allusions, always obscure, have little interest for the present day reader. He made a valuable contribution to history in his Account of the War in India on the Coast of Coromandel from the year 1750 to 1760 1761 . He had intended to write a history of the rise and progress of British power in India, but this enterprise went no further than this one work, as he found that Robert Orme , who had promised him the use of his papers, contemplated the execution of a similar plan. He died in Twickenham . The Works of RichardOwen Cambridge included several pieces never before published.
