Taxobox color violet name Lettuce necrotic yellows virus LNYV virus group v ordo Mononegavirales familia Rhabdoviridae genus Cytorhabdovirus type species Lettuce necrotic yellows virus Lettuce necrotic yellows virus LNYV is a plant virus belonging to the virus order Mononegavirales , family Rhabdoviridae and genus cytorhabdovirus . It was first identified in Australia in the plant species Lactuca sativa in 1963 by Stubbs et al. Since then it has been identified in many other plant species including Datura stramonium and Nicotiana glutinosa . The virus is transmitted by the insect Vector epidemiology vector Hyperomyzus lactucae the insect can become infected by feeding on an infected plant. It then acts as a reservoir for the virus in which it can multiply. The virus is also transmitted congenitally to its progeny References Stubbs, L.L. and Grogan, R.G. 1963 . Aust. J. agric. The virus was first identified in 1922 in the USA by Barrus and Chupp 1922 who reported it having an effect on the plant species Solanum tuberosum . The virus is characterised for its various effects on the potato including stunted growth, dwarfing and apical yellowing. The virus also effects the tuber as it causes cracking and malformation. The virus is transmitted by the insect vector Agallia constricta . The insect becomes infected upon feeding on an infected plant and then plays host for the virus infecting every plant it feed upon after this event. References Barrus and Chupp 1922 . - Bovine ephemeral fever
Taxobox virus group v ordo Mononegavirales familia Rhabdoviridae genus Ephemerovirus Bovine ephemeral fever BEF also known as Three Day Sickness is an arthropod vector borne disease of cattle and is caused by the Ephemerovirus virus of the Rhabdoviridae family of virus. The Rhabdoviridae are a class V virus according to the Baltimore classification of viruses. The BEF virus is a bullet or cone shaped virion which consists of a negative, single stranded RNA genome with a lipid envelope and 5 structural proteins. The envelope glycoprotein G contains type specific and neutralizing antigenic sites. Theres has been recent evidence which demonstrated that the BEF virus induces apoptosis in several cell lines. It was however shown that apoptosis could be blocked by the caspase inhibitor Z VAD fmk , indicating that bovine ephemeral fever virus induces caspase dependent apoptosis in cultured cells. Location The virus has been found in tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, Africa and through eastern Australia. Transmission The virus is transmitted by an insect Vector epidemiology vector . The particular species linked to the virus are the biting midges Culicoides oxystoma and Culicoides nipponensis C. nipponensis . Disease Characteristics The characteristics of the disease are the sudden onset of fever , stiffness , lameness , nose nasal and eye ocular discharges, Clinical depression depression , cessation of rumination and constipation . Although the pathogensis of the disease is complex it seems clear that the host inflammatory responses, mediated by the release of cytokines , are involved in the expression of the disease.
