  1. Cremona group

In mathematics , in birational geometry , the Cremona group named for Luigi Cremona of order math n math over a field mathematics field math k math is the group of birational automorphism s of the n dimensional projective space over k . It is denoted by Cr P sup n sup k or Bir P sup n sup k or Cr sub n sub k . The Cremona group is naturally identified with the automorphism group of the field of the rational function s in math n math indeterminates over math k math , or in other words a pure transcendental extension of k , with transcendence degree n . The projective general linear group of order math n 1 math , of projective transformation s, is contained in the Cremona group of order math n math . The two are equal only when math n 1 math , in which case both the numerator and the denominator of a transformation must be linear. In two dimensions, the Cremona group is generated by the standard quadratic transformation , along with PGL 3, k , provided that k is an algebraically closed field . The problem of describing the Cremona group in three dimensions and higher has still not been settled. It is annexed to the city s Cremona Cathedral Cathedral . The edifice mixes romanesque architecture Romanesque and Lombard Gothic architecture Gothic styles, the latter evident in the preference for bare brickwork walls. To the 16th century restorations belong the marble cover of some walls, the pavement and the baptismal font 1531 and the narthex 1588 of the entrance, in Romanesque style, work by Angelo Nani . The interior has a 14th century Crucifix, over the St. John altar, and two wooden statues portraying St. Philip Neri and St. John the Baptist by Giovanni Bertesi. 1. Cremona diagram

Unreferenced date December 2007 Image cremonadiagram.jpg thumbnail right Cremona diagram for a plane truss The Cremona diagram is a graphical method used in statics of truss es to determine the forces in members graphic statics . The method was created by the Italian mathematician Luigi Cremona . In the Cremona method, first the external forces and reactions are drawn to scale ratio scale forming a vertical line in the lower right side of the picture. This is the net force sum of all the force Vector geometric vector s and is equal to zero as there is mechanical equilibrium. Since the static equilibrium equilibrium holds for the external forces on the entire truss construction, it also holds for the internal forces acting on each joint. For a joint to be at rest the sum of the forces on a joint must also be equal to zero. Starting at joint Aorda , the internal forces can be found by drawing lines in the Cremona diagram representing the forces in the members 1 and 4, going clockwise V sub A sup going up load at A going down , force in member 1 going down left , member 4 going up right and closing with V sub A sup . As the force in member 1 is towards the joint, the member is under compression, the force in member 4 is away from the joint so the member 4 is under tension. The length of the lines for members 1 and 4 in the diagram, multiplied with the chosen scale coefficient factor is the Magnitude mathematics magnitude of the force in members 1 and 4. Now, in the same way the forces in members 2 and 6 can be found for joint C force in member 1 going up right , force in C going down, force in 2 going down left , force in 6 going up left and closing with the force in member 1. 1. Roland of Cremona

Roland of Cremona 1178 1259 was a Dominican theologian and an early scholastic philosopher . He was the first Dominican regent at Paris, France 1229 1230 . ref name soul The Early Scholastics , The Problem Of The Soul In The Thirteenth Century , Richard C. Dales, E.J. Brill, 1995 , pp. 36 37. ref He was among the most enthusiastic of those who made use of the newly translated Aristotle in the early 13th century. Composition of the soul Roland of Cremona did not say as much about the soul as William of Auvergne, Bishop of Paris . He believed that the soul was the body s perfection. He affirmed the matter form composition of the soul, unlike William. The two men agreed that there was a single soul in man and that its nature was simple. The vegetative, sensitive, and rational faculties are all performed by this single entity. The soul is dependent on the body according to Roland of Cremona. When the soul leaves the body it is not longer a soul, but becomes a spirit. This is because it no longer has the relationship to the body by which it is deemed a soul. ref name soul Like Peter of Spain he denied that embryos possess pre rational souls. Roland of Cremona attributed the growth and development of the soul to the soul of the mother. ref A Polarization Of Views , The Problem Of The Rational Soul In The Thirteenth Century , Richard C. Dales, E.J. Brill, 1995, pg. 107. ref Career He joined the Dominican order at Bologna in 1219. He was a lecturer at the medieval University of Toulouse from its foundation in 1229, and preached against the Cathars in the city. In 1231 he led a party of friar s and priest s to exhume from a cemetery the body of a man rumoured to have died a Heresy heretic . This precipitate action led to protests from the consuls of Toulouse , and Roland left the city soon afterwards. References references Victor ...   more details
