Protopunk is a term used retrospectively to describe a number of musicians who were important precursors of punk rock in the mid 1970s and later, or who have been cited by early punk musicians as influential. Alban Snoopy Pfisterer born 1946, Geneva , Switzerland was the drummer and keyboardist with the American 1960 s rock band Love band Love . He was brought in on drums to replace Don Conka. The band then had a US 33 hit with 7 And 7 Is. Shortly after 7 And 7 Is was released, drummer Michael Stuart was brought into the band, and Pfisterer switched to keyboards. Nick Knox born Nicholas George Stephanoff, c. 1958 , USA was the drummer with the psychobilly band The Cramps . He replaced Miriam Linna in 1977 and left in 1991. Knox was with The Cramps during the peak of their worldwide popularity when they toured Europe extensively in 1986 with the A Date with Elvis The Cramps album A Date with Elvis tour.
