The PortHuron Civic Theatre formerly PortHuron Little Theatre is a historical theatre which started in 1956 in the town of PortHuron, Michigan . For sixteen years, PHLT brought 84 productions to the McMorran Place McMorran Place Theatre stage. In 1976, the little theatre purchased and renovated an old church in town for a place of their own. However, in 1983 the little theatre returned to McMorran Place Theatre for the larger atmosphere. In 1989, the little theatre changed the name to PortHuron Civic Theatre to better reflect a growing, county wide membership . Today, the PHCT is still going strong on the McMorran stage. The PortHuron Civic Theatre board elected to produce Game Night , the first original play to be produced by the group in its then 55 year term. The origins of the fires are unknown, but the damage was worsened by a number of factors. Uninterrupted drought plagued the Midwestern United States Midwest into early October and winds were strong. When the wind increased and shifted direction, fire fighters were unable to control the flames any longer. Vast tracts of forest burned for a week in parts of Michigan and Wisconsin. Within hours, several Midwestern cities and towns were reduced to charcoal and ash. That same night, the Great Chicago Fire erupted in Illinois and the Peshtigo Fire burned a large tract in Wisconsin , including the city of Peshtigo, Wisconsin Peshtigo . Windsor, Ontario met a similar fate four days later. Much of the area burned by the PortHuron Fire was to be swept by Thumb Fire another deadly conflagration 10 years later.
