Image Pope Paul VI Tiara 2.jpg thumb right Pope Paul VI s Coronation Tiara, now in the Crypt of the The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. The Tiara of Pope Paul VI was the last papal tiara worn to date. It was donated by the Episcopal See see of Milan when its cardinal, Giovanni Montini, was elected Pope Paul VI in the Papal conclave, 1963 1963 papal conclave . It was this tiara that was used to crown Pope Paul VI in 1963, which was the last papal coronation to date. Previously, the Palatine Tiara had been used in coronations since 1877. Distinctive design Pope Paul s tiara was distinctive in many ways. As with some other papal tiaras, it was made of a solid silver exterior over a felt lay. Unlike other tiaras it was almost totally devoid of Gemstone jewel s, with the three crowns represented by three rings that ran around the tiara, on which sat a handful of small jewels in isolation, in addition to the aquamarines set in the center of each of the fleur de lis which make up the gold circlet at the base of the tiara. Weight Though lacking in jewels, Pope Paul s tiara weighs 10 pound mass lb 4.5 kilogram kg in contrast to the 2  lb 0.9  kg weight of the previously used Palatine Tiara . 1. Portrait of Pope Paul V

Infobox artwork image file Pope Paul V.jpg title Portrait of Pope Paul V image size 200px artist Caravaggio year c. 1605 1606 type Oil on canvas height 203 width 119 museum Galleria Borghese, Rome Portrait of Pope Paul V c. 1605 1606 is a painting by the Italy Italian artist Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio 1571&ndash 1610 , now in the Galleria Borghese , Rome . Camillo Borghese reigned as Pope Paul V from 1605 to 1621. Caravaggio s biographer Giovanni Bellori records that the artist painted a seated portrait of him as pope, which must place the work between Borghese s election on 16 May 1605 and Caravaggio s flight from Rome in May 1606 following the death of Ranuccio Tommassoni. The portrait is attested in the Borghese collection from 1650. Many scholars have doubted the authenticity of this painting, considering the composition too uninspired for the artist s style. But the scholar John Gash in his authoritative revised 2003 catalogue of Caravaggio believes the work is genuine, pointing out that the pose would have been beyond the artist s control Paul V was noted for his dignified and even taciturn demenour, and would be unlikely to accept direction. H is unostentatious bearing exemplifies the sober, cautious and, in fact, genuinely religious spirit of the man... . Gash also points out that Paul s narrowed eyes, far from conveying suspicion and malevolence as many writers assert, are the result of chronic myopia. Also note the startling similarities between this portrait and Diego Vel zquez Vel zquez s Portrait of Pope Innocent X . According to Bellori Caravaggio obtained his introduction to Paul through the papal nephew, cardinal Scipione Borghese . 1. Testament of Pope Paul VI

The Testament of Pope Paul VI is a document written by Pope Paul VI , similar to a civilian will law last will and testament . It was modeled after the papal testaments of Pope Paul VI s predecessors. Pope Paul VI s document in turn became the model used for the Testament of Pope John Paul II . The document, written in Italian, contains an explanation of several decisions made by Pope Paul VI as to the disposal of his estate law estate and personal belongings of value. It was read before the College of Cardinals by the Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church Camerlengo Jean Marie Villot and Dean of the College of Cardinals Carlo Confalonieri . Text Some notes for my testament. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. 1. I fix my gaze on the mystery of death, and on what follows it, in the light of Christ which alone can brighten it, and for this reason with simple and serene trust. I recognize the truth, which for me has always reflected on present life regarding this mystery, and I bless the victor over death for having escaped its shadows and unveiled the light. Thus before death, in total and definitive separation from the present life, I feel the duty to celebrate the gift, the good fortune, the beauty, the destiny of this very fleeting existence. Lord, I thank you that you have called me to life, and still more that, by making me a Christian, you have regenerated and destined me for the fullness of life.
