The Zealots of Piety Russian language Ru ssian was a circle of ecclesiastic al and secular individuals beginning in the late 1630s in Russia , which gathered around Stefan Vonifatiyev , the confessor of tsar Alexei Mikhailovich . The impetus to the group s formation was the Times of Trouble . The members believed the massacres and conflagrations of the time to be the manifestation of a wrathful God, angry with the Russian people s lack of religiosity. In response, the group called for the rebirth of the Russian Orthodox faith, and a renewal of the religious piety of the masses. The Zealots of Piety included Fyodor Rtishchev , Archmandrite Patriarch Nikon Nikon of the Novospassky Monastery future Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia , Abbot Ivan Neronov of the Kazan Cathedral, Moscow Kazan Cathedral , archpriest s Avvakum , Loggin, Lazar, and Daniil. The members of the Zealots of Piety wanted to enhance the authority of the Russian Orthodox Church and increase its influence upon the people. Among other goals of the circle were the struggle against the shortcomings and vices of the clergy , revival of church sermon s and other means for influencing the masses. It was the mansion of Prince Zhao Jiande of the Nanyue Nanyue Kingdom during the Han Dynasty Western Han Dynasty 206 B.C. A.D.24 . History The temple was initially built by an Indian monk during the Jin Dynasty 265 420 Eastern Jin Dynasty 317 420 but the present temple, occupying an area of 31,000 square meters, dates from the Qing Dynasty 1644 1911 . The temple has an important place in Buddhist history as Huineng of the Zen Zen Buddhist sect was a novice monk here in the 7th century. The Sixth Ancestor Hall in the temple was built in memory of Huineng, the sixth master of the Zen Sect of Buddhism, who is widely considered the most influential monk in the history of Buddhism in China Chinese Buddhism .
