It is housed in the Galleria Nazionale dell Umbria , Perugia , Italy . The work was executed for the Franciscan convent of Sant Antonio da Padova in Perugia, most likely in the years following his sojourn in Rome . It portrays the Virgin enthroned with the Child in the central part, flanked by several saints Anthony of Padua and John the Baptist on the left, Francis and Elizabeth of Hungary in the right. In the cusp is the Annunciation . The upper part of the predella shows the saint Claire and Lucy, while in the lower part are stories of the main saints. The central part of the polyptych shows a still archaic style, both in the composition of the frame and in the gold background Piero della Francesca was in fact called to complete a work already begun by a local painter ref name Zuffi, p. 53 Zuffi, p. 53 ref . Also of lesser quality are the predella panel, which are in fact attributed to assistants. Niccol da Perugia also Nicol fl. second half of the 14th century was an Italy Italian composer of the Trecento , the musical period also known as the Italian ars nova . He was a contemporary of Francesco Landini , and apparently was most active in Florence . Little is known for certain about his life only a few biographical details are verifiable from extramusical sources. He was probably from Perugia , and may have been the son of the provost there. In 1362 he was listed as a visitor to the monastery of Santa Trinita along with Gherardello da Firenze . From the evidence of his music, he was probably a friend of the Florentine poet Franco Sacchetti , and must have done the bulk of his composing between 1360 and 1375, since those are the outside dates known for the poems he set. He may be the same as the Ser Niccol recorded as a notable singer of laude in 1393. One of his compositions, La fiera testa , was likely written against the house of Visconti Visconti family when Florence was at war with Milan between 1397 and 1400 Niccol may have been in Perugia then. A total of 41 compositions of Niccol have survived with reliable attribution, the majority of them in the Squarcialupi Codex , and all the others from sources in Tuscany . All are secular, all are vocal, and they include 16 Madrigal Trecento madrigal s, 21 ballata ballate , and 4 caccia music cacce . Image IMG 1032 Perugia Campanile di san Pietro 1468 7 agosto 2006 Foto G. Dall Orto.jpg thumb 240px The hexagonal belltower seen from the cloister. San Pietro is the name of a church and an abbey in the city of Perugia Umbria , central Italy. History The monastery was created around 996 over the former cathedral church, the early seat of Perugia s bishops, existing since the early seventh century, although the first document citing the abbot is from 1002. Its early patron was Pietro Vincioli, a Perugian noble, later canonized. In the following centuries the abbey increased greatly its power, until in 1398 it was burnt by the Perugini, as the abbot Francesco Guidalotti had taken part in the plot against Biordo Michelotti, chief of the popular party. The monastery reflourished with Pope Eugene IV , who united it to the Congregation of St. Justine of Padua, maintaining a position of prestige and power in the city. The abbey was temporarily suppressed by the French in 1799 . The monks had aided the Perugine revolt of 1859 against the Papal States Papal government, and, after the Unification of Italy , the new government allowed them to remain in the Abbey.
