It consists of a soft rubber tube placed in a wound area, to prevent the build up of fluid. Common uses A Penrosedrain removes fluid from a wound area. Frequently it is put in place by a surgeon after a procedure is complete to prevent the area from accumulating fluid, such as blood, which could serve as a medium for bacteria to grow in. In podiatry , a Penrosedrain is often used as a tourniquet during a hallux nail avulsion procedure or ingrown toenail extraction. First, along with the free, online FLY Extended play EP , Drain Mode ON acts as a bridge between two very different albums by The Flashbulb , M album M and These Open Fields , employing a more evolved sound and technique, at least equipment wise, if not conceptually. Secondly, the short release is quite a bit of fun, displaying Benn Jordan Jordan stretching out and getting more comfortable as The Flashbulb , and trying out absurd things like a joking Jazz scat singing style in Loose Jazz X , the loosely constructed ambience of My Summer Tinsle and a very unconventional use of the didgeridoo in Didj X . The set normally consists of several stiff, but flexible, rods, each approximately one metre long, which may be screwed together end to end. The material is often polypropylene heavy gauge tubing, often black or blue in colour. Jointing of the plastic to metal is done in hydraulic presses and these joints are the achilles heel of this rod type. Often, when subjected to force, the joint parts company. Better quality ends have securing pins through the differing materials. More expensive rods are high tensile steel. End connections are often brass or steel, the better steel type having cadmium plating for corrosion resistance. Two types of threaded end can be purchased. Cheaper ones simply screw together, male to female but have the disadvantage of needing one way rotation in use to prevent unscrewing. Better quality rods have their ends formed into a square peg, mating in a matching square hole in the adjacent rod. A captive threaded nut then screw locks both lengths together making a firm joint.
