Kentucky geo stub fr Pennyroyal Plateau ...Unreferenced date December 2009 Image KYphysiography.jpg thumb right Regions of Kentucky, with the Pennyroyal plateau shown in light brown The Pennyroyal Plateau , or, as it is more commonly called in Kentucky , the Pennyrile , is a large area of the state that features rolling hills, cave s, and karst topography in general. It is also called the Mississippi Plateau . The Pennyrile is bordered by the Pottsville Escarpment in the east. The Pottsville Escarpment is the transition zone from the central part of Kentucky to the higher and geologically younger Cumberland Plateau in the eastern part of the state. North of the Pennyrile, the Bluegrass region Bluegrass borders the Chester Escarpment . This escarpment, mostly based on weathering resistant sandstone , is a fairly dramatic one, featuring many cliff s, canyon s, waterfall s and rock shelter s. The Pennyrile is bordered on the north by Muldraugh Hill , the geological escarpment that forms the transition from the geologically older Bluegrass to the Pennyrile. This is a series of knobs and ridges based on hard siltstone s. The Pennyrile is bordered on the west by the younger Jackson Purchase , a mostly alluvial area. The Pennyrile is usually thought to include the Western Coal Fields of Pennsylvanian age, located in the northwestern area of the state, and separated from the rest of the Pennyrile by the Dripping Springs Escarpment , also based on sandstone. To the south, the Pennyrile continues as the Highland Rim of Middle Tennessee . The Pennyrile is largely in farmland where the bedrock is limestone , and most of the Pennyrile is based on Mississippian age limestone, particularly the St. Louis Limestone or Ste. Genevieve Limestone . In some areas, the limestone is capped with a soft sandstone. This kind of formation&mdash sandstone over limestone&mdash is featured in the Mammoth Cave area, and has enabled the formation ...   more details

  1. Nimrod Pennyroyal

Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 Nimrod Pennyroyal is a recurring character in the Mortal Engines Quartet , written by Philip Reeve . He is first introduced in Predator s Gold and remains a major character for the rest of the series. Pennyroyal is a friendly author of adventure books which purportedly retell his travels across the world. Their authenticity is somewhat suspect, but they remain bestsellers. The historians in London criticised his work for focusing more on the adventure and romance than the history. Most of what he claims to have done is not true and is just written for the money. An exception of this is Predators Gold , which is mostly changed, still hangs on to most of the events in the story. He does seem to have some grains of historical authentication, for instance when Tom says Pennyroyal believed the Ancients had machines called eye pods where they could store thousands of songs on tiny little gramophone records. In Predator s Gold Pennyroyal wishes to travel with Tom Natsworthy and Hester Shaw . He tells Tom of his discoveries and adventures in America. Tom is amazed by Pennyroyals discoveries, but wonders why he hasn t heard much of them before. His bravery is first questioned when the Green Storm attacks the Jenny Haniver and Pennyroyal whimpers every time a missile comes past the airship, which is unusual for someone who has fought bears and ventured the unknown. In Anchorage, it is revealed he is actually a fraud, and that he does indeed simply make up his stories. His true cowardice is revealed when he shoots Tom accidentally, according to Pennyroyal and steals the Jenny Haniver to escape the great city Arkangel. After stealing the Jenny Haniver it is unclear on everything he does but in Infernal Devices we find he has become the Mayor ... Natsworthy , Wren Natsworthy and Theo Ngoni .
