Biography Patricius was the third son of Aspar , the Alans Alan magister militum of Emperor Leo I emperor Leo I , and as his father he was an Arianism Arian . In 470, in an episode of the struggle for power between Aspar and the Isaurian general Zeno emperor Zeno , Aspar persuaded the Emperor to appoint Patricius as caesar title Caesar and give him in marriage his daughter Leontia daughter of Leo I Leontia . However, as for the clergy and people of Constantinople a Arian was not eligible to become an Emperor, at the news of the appointment riots broke out in the Hippodrome of Constantinople city hippodrome , led by the head of the Sleepless Monks, Marcellus Aspar and Leo had to promise to the bishops that Patricius would convert to Orthodoxy before becoming Emperor, and only after the conversion he would have married Leontia. No coins of Patricius as Caesar were issued, and his only act in office was a travel to Alexandria , where he was welcomed with all the honours attributed to a Caesar . ref Brian Croke, Dynasty and Ethnicity Emperor Leo and the Eclipse of Aspar , Chiron 35 2005 , 193. ref In 471 an imperial conspiracy caused the death of Aspar and of his son Ardabur it is possible that Patricius died on this occasion, although some sources report that he recovered from his wounds in any case, after this episode, Patricius disappears from the sources ... 460 Magnus , br Fl. Paul of Edessa died 30 October 526 was the Monophysite bishop of Edessa, Mesopotamia Edessa . He was consecrated 510, succeeding Peter of Edessa Peter . In the first year of his episcopate Paul joined with Gamalinus, bishop of Perrha , against certain sectarians who refused the use of bread, water, and wine, except in celebrating the Eucharist . Justin I Justin , becoming emperor, undertook to force the decrees of Council of Chalcedon Chalcedon on Severus of Antioch and his followers, and committed the task to Patricius. Patricius arrived at Edessa in November 519, then ordered Paul either to subscribe the council or resign. Paul refused, and took sanctuary in his baptistery whence he was dragged by Patricius and sentenced to be exiled to Seleucia . Justin, however, hoping to overcome the bishop s resistance, reinstated him after 44 days. But Paul still refused to submit, and was at length deposed and banished to Euchaita in Pontus , July 522. A later imperial order placed Asclepius of Edessa Asclepius in the see. Paul translated, no doubt in his days of exile, the Greek hymns of Severus and other Monophysite writers, and arranged them so as to form a Syriac hymnal. On the death of Asclepius June 525 , Paul repented as the orthodox author of the Chronicon Edessenum states and submitted to Justinian I Justinian , then acting for Justin. From him Paul obtained a letter supporting the petition he addressed to Euphrasius, then Patriarch of Antioch , praying to be restored to his see. Paul was accordingly permitted to return to Edessa as bishop in March 526. He survived this his third inauguration less than 8 months, dying on October 30, less than a year before Justin died. The Syriac Orthodox Church Syrian church , however, cannot have regarded him as a renegade, for he is commemorated in their calendar on August 23, as Mar Paulus, bishop of Edessa, Interpreter of Books, a title likewise given to Jacob of Edessa . His hymnal consists of 365 hymns. These include 295 writ ... more details

Leontia born 457 died after 479 was the daughter of the Eastern Roman Emperor Leo I emperor Leo I . Biography Leontia was the daughter of Emperor Leo I emperor Leo I and his wife Verina she was younger sister of Ariadne empress Ariadne , but, unlike her, she could claim to be porphyrogenita , born in the purple , because she was born during the first year of reign of her father 457 . Leo, who ascended the throne for military merits and had no family ties with the Roman aristocracy, used the marriage of his daughters to strengthen his position as Ariadne had been married to the Isauria n general Zeno emperor Zeno , the marriage of Leontia was designed to bind him to the other component of the army, the Germanic one represented by the Alans Alan magister militum Aspar . It happened, however, that at the announcement of the marriage between the son of Aspar, Julius Patricius , and Leontia popular riots broke out 470 for the clergy and people of Constantinople it was in fact not acceptable for an Arianism Arian as Patricius to have the possibility of becoming emperor. The riots stopped only when Aspar and Leo promised to the bishops that Patricius would convert to Orthodoxy before becoming emperor, and that only after the conversion he would have married Leontia. In 471 Julius Patricius disappears from the chronicles his father Aspar and his brother Ardabur were murdered in this year by order of Leo. Leontia was then married to Marcian usurper Marcian , the son of the Western Emperor Anthemius the marriage linked the two royal houses of the West and the East. It happened, however, that in 472 Anthemius died, succeeded by Olybrius , and that at the death of Leo, in 474, Zeno ascended to the throne of the East. Ousted from both thrones, Marcianus and Leontia plotted a revolt against Zeno, in 479, which was based on Leontia s right of precedence over her sister as porphyrogenita the revolt was however quelled. John Crescentius Giovanni Crescenzio was the son of Crescentius the Younger . He succeeded to his father s title of consul and Patrician post Roman Europe patrician of Rome in 1002 and held it to his death. Early in 1001, a revolt broke out in Rome against the Emperor Otto III , who now permanently resided in the Eternal City. The Emperor and Pope Sylvester II , the first pope of French nationality, were compelled to flee it is quite likely that John Crescentius was the prime mover of the rebellion. At any rate, after this he assumed supreme authority in Rome, and after the death of the Otto III 24 January 1002 took the title of Patricius Romanorum . Sylvester was permitted to return to Rome, but had little to do with the temporal government. The same is true of his three immediate successors Pope John XVII John XVII , Pope John XVIII John XVIII , and Pope Sergius IV Sergius IV , all of whom were appointed through the influence of John Crescentius. Cresconius Africanus Crisconius was a Latin canon lawyer , of uncertain date and place. He flourished, probably, in the latter half of the 7th century. He was probably a Christian bishop of the African Church. Concordia canonum Cresconius made a collection of canons, known as Concordia canonum , inclusive of the Apostolic Canons , nearly all the canons of the fourth and fifth century councils, and many papal decretal s from the end of the fourth to the end of the fifth century. It was much used as a handy manual of ecclesiastical legislation by the churches of Africa and Gaul as late as the tenth century. Few of its manuscripts postdate that period. The content is taken from the collection of Dionysius Exiguus , but the division into titles 301 is copied from the Breviatio canonum of Fulgentius Ferrandus , a sixth century deacon of Carthage. In many manuscripts the text of Cresconius is preceded by an index or table of contents breviarium of the titles, first edited in 1588 by Pithou . In its entirety the work was editio princeps first published by Voellus and Christophe Justel Justellus ref In the appendix 33 112 to their bibliotheca Juris canonici Paris, 1661 . It is in Patrologia Latina , LXXXVIII, 829 sqq. ref One of its best manuscripts, the tenth century Vallicellianus Rome , has a note in which Cresconius is declared the author of a metrical account of the bella et victorias of the Patricius Johannes in Africa over the Saracens. This was formerly interpreted to mean the African victory of the Byzantine Patricius Johannes in 697, hence the usual date of Cresconius. Some, however, hold that the poem in question is the Johannis of Flavius Cresconius Corippus , a Latin poet of about 550, and on this basis identify him with the canonist, thus placing the latter in the sixth century. Others with Maassen , p.  810 while admitting that the poem in question can be none other than the Johannis of the aforesaid Latin poet unknown to Fabricius , and first edited by M ... more details
