  1. Marie Pasteur

Orphan date October 2010 Marie Laurent ,a.k.a. Madame Marie Pasteur , Clermont Ferrand , France , 15 January 1826 married Strasbourg 29 May 1849, aged 23 buried at the crypt of the Institute Pasteur , Paris , 28 September 1910, aged 84 , one of the daughters of the Rector of the Strasbourg Academy was the wife of famous French chemist and bacteriologist Louis Pasteur . Marie worked as a secretary and science writer to her husband, she worked with him on expanding his first researches, around 1848, on the remarks previously made by Mitscherlich on the different optical properties concerning polarized light of tartaric acid when it came from natural wines, wine lees and when it was synthesized in a laboratory. It seems that for years afterwards, famous crystallographer, physicist and mathematician Jean Baptiste Biot , Madame Marie Pasteur and Louis father, Jean Joseph cooperated in providing Louis with moral support. For instance in a letter by Biot to Louis father your son is ours also and whe share with Marie all our love for him, too . There was also philosopher Charles Chappuis in this support network around Louis. Their eldest daughter Jeanne, died from typhoid fever , aged 9, at Arbois . Then, in 1865, 2 year old Camile died also followed by 12 and a half years old C cile on 23 May 1866. Only Jean Baptiste and Marie Louise lived to be adults. They are usually glass tubes tapered to a narrow point, and fitted with a rubber bulb at the top. The combination of the Pasteur pipette and rubber bulb has also been referred to as a teat pipette. Pasteur pipettes come in various lengths and are sold in boxes of hundreds. They are named after the doctor Louis Pasteur , who was known to have used a variant of them extensively during his research. Generally, they are considered cheap enough to be disposable, however, so long as the glass point is not chipped, the Pasteur pipette may be washed and reused indefinitely. 1. Pasteur Bizimungu

Pasteur Bizimungu born 1950 was the President of Rwanda from 19 July 1994 until 23 March 2000. He is considered belonging to the Hutu caste ethnic group and was born in the Gisenyi prefecture of Rwanda. Bizimungu worked within the Hutu Mouvement r publicain national pour la d mocratie et le d veloppement MRND regime which ruled Rwanda until 1994 , including as director general of the national electricity company. In 1990 he joined the primarily Tutsi Rwandese Patriotic Front when his brother, a colonel in the Rwandan Armed Forces , was assassinated, possibly on the orders of the government. The Rwandan Patriotic Front was dissatisfied with the Hutu government of Juv nal Habyarimana , who Pasteur Bizimungu was reportedly close to in the 1980s. After Habyarimana s death in a plane crash 6 April 1994 decades of complex ethnic, social and political hatreds were ignited and led to the Rwandan Genocide . Eventually in July 1994 the Rwandan Patriotic Front gained control of the country and established a national unity government. The RPF leader, Tutsi Paul Kagame , was chosen vice president, and Bizimungu was chosen President so that the majority Hutus would still be highly represented in the government. 1. Pasteur effect

Refimprove date November 2009 The Pasteur effect is an inhibiting effect of oxygen on the Fermentation biochemistry fermentation process. Discovery The effect was discovered in 1857 by Louis Pasteur , who showed that aerating yeasted broth causes yeast cell growth to increase, while conversely, Fermentation biochemistry fermentation rate decreases. Explanation The effect can be easily explained, as the yeast being facultative anaerobes can produce energy using two different metabolic pathways. While the oxygen concentration is low, the product of glycolysis , pyruvate , is turned into ethanol and carbon dioxide , and the energy production efficiency is low 2 Mole unit moles of Adenosine triphosphate ATP per mole of glucose . If the oxygen concentration grows, pyruvate is converted to acetyl CoA that can be used in the Krebs Cycle , which increases the efficiency to 38 moles of ATP per mole of glucose. Under anaerobic conditions, the rate of glucose metabolism is faster, but the amount of ATP produced as already mentioned is smaller. When exposed to aerobic conditions, the ATP production increases and the rate of glycolysis slows, because the ATP produced acts as an allosteric inhibition allosteric inhibitor for phosphofructokinase 1 , the third enzyme in the glycolysis pathway. So, from the standpoint of ATP production, it is advantageous for yeast to undergo Krebs Cycle in the presence of oxygen, as more ATP is produced from less glucose. Practical implications All the processes used in alcohol production are kept in anaerobic conditions, while breeding yeast for biomass is done in aerobic conditions, the broth being aeration aerated . 1. Pasteur point

The Pasteur point is a level of oxygen about 0.3 by volume which is less than 1 of Present Atmospheric Level or PAL above which aerobic microorganisms and facultative anaerobes adapt from anaerobic respiration to aerobic respiration . ref cite journal unused data author Engelhardt, WA journal Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry title On the dual role of respiration volume 5 issue 1 pages 25 33 year 1974 doi 10.1007 BF01874169 last1 Engelhardt first1 W. A. pmid 4372523 ref It is also used to mark the level of oxygen in the early atmosphere of the Earth that is believed to have led to major evolutionary changes. It is named after Louis Pasteur the French microbiologist who studied anaerobic microbial fermentation and is related to the Pasteur effect . ref cite journal journal Origins of Life and Evolution of Biospheres title The history of atmospheric oxygen volume 2 issue 1 pages 5 17 year 1970 author Rutten, MG doi 10.1007 BF00928950 ref As it was previously supposed, about 400 million years ago, in the Cambrian period , the level of oxygen in the atmosphere rose from 0.1 to 1 percent of present atmospheric level. This led to many organisms adapting from fermentation to respiration leading to organisms evolving photosynthesis and what is termed the Cambrian explosion of species. It has also been suggested that this increased oxygen level reduced the influence of Ultraviolet radiation . ref Berkner L. V. & Marshall, L. C. 1965. Oxygen and evolution.
