    The Orchestre national du Capitole de Toulouse is a French orchestra based in Toulouse . It acts as both a symphony orchestra whose main residence is Toulouse s Halle aux Grains, and the permanent orchestra of the Th tre du Capitole in Toulouse. Initially with the name Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse , past music directors of the orchestra have included Andr Cluytens beginning in 1932 and Georges Pr tre 1951 1955 . The Orchestre du Capitole rose to prominence during Michel Plasson s tenure as music director, from 1968 to 2003. In 1974, Plasson chose the Halle aux Grains, a former market converted into an arena, to become the orchestra s residence. Until then, the orchestra was not used to giving concerts but was instead confined to the Capitole s pit, and had a very low reputation. Within twelve years, the orchestra had improved enough to qualify to have the term national in its name, which it acquired in 1980. The Th tre du Capitole de Toulouse is an opera house and ballet company located within the main administration buildings, the Capitole de Toulouse Capitole , of the city of Toulouse in south west France . The first performance space, a salle du jeu de spectacle , was created in the building in 1736 by Guillaume Cammas . Following a period of neglect, the current space was created during the rebuild of 1818. The theatre suffered fire damage in 1917, but was restored in 1923. The front of house areas were modernised in 1996. The current capacity is 1156 seats. Michel Plasson was responsible for the artistic direction of the company from 1973. He was followed by Jacques Doucet in 1981, by Nicolas Joel in 1991, and by Fr d ric Chambert in 2009, after Joel s move to the Op ra national de Paris . Founded in 1902 as the Soci t symphonique de Qu bec, the OSQ is the oldest active Canadian orchestra. Joseph V zina was the OSQ s first music director, from 1902 to 1924. In 1942 the orchestra merged with rival orchestra Cercle philharmonique de Qu bec founded 1936 , at which time it changed its name to the Orchestre Symphonique de Qu bec. The orchestra holds an annual competition for young Quebec musicians awarding monetary prizes as well as the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the orchestra. The orchestra also performs with the Th tre lyrique du Qu bec Th tre lyrique de Nouvelle France , the defunct Op ra du Qu bec, the Op ra de Qu bec, and the Choeur symphonique de Qu bec. Since 1998, the OSQ s music director is Yoav Talmi . In addition to the extensive restorations at the Citadelle Henry, the Palace of Sans Souci, the Cathedral of Cap Haitien, Fort Jacques de Fermathe, the National Palace in Port au Prince, ISPAN undertook numerous studies and investigations that have resulted in a list with more than a thousand properties of cultural value located throughout Haiti .
