Object Name Service ONS is a mechanism that leverages Domain Name System Domain Name System DNS to discover information about a product and related services from the Electronic Product Code Electronic Product Code EPC . It is a component of the EPCglobal Network . The Object Name Service ONS is an automated networking service similar to the Domain Name Service DNS that points computers to sites on the World Wide Web. When an interrogator reads an RFID tag, the Electronic Product Code is passed to middleware, which, in turn, goes to an ONS on a local network or the Internet to find where information on the product is stored. ONS points the middleware to a server where a file about that product is stored. The middleware retrieves the file after proper authentication , and the information about the product in the file can be forwarded to a company s inventory or supply chain applications. ref cite web url http www.rfidjournal.com faq 24 114 title What is the Object Name Service? ref In January 2004, VeriSign was awarded a contract to operate an ONS service on behalf of EPCglobal . ref cite web url http www.itworld.com 040113verisignrfid title VeriSign to manage RFID root server publisher ITWorld date 2004 01 13 accessdate 2008 09 11 ref It is published by the EPCglobal board. In computing , the Federated NamingService FNS or XFN X Open Federated Naming is a system for uniting various name services under a single interface for the basic naming operations. It is produced by X Open and included in various Unix operatings systems such as Solaris Operating Environment versions 2.5 to 9. The purpose of XFN and FNS is to allow applications to use widely heterogeneous naming services such as Network Information Service NIS , Domain Name System DNS and so on via a single interface, to avoid duplication of programming effort. Unlike the similar LDAP , neither XFN nor FNS were ever popular nor widely used. FNS was last included in Solaris 9 and was not included with Solaris 10. Currently there are about 50 naming firms globally. ref dmoz Business Marketing and Advertising Branding NamingNaming Firms ref Naming has become big business, with some larger companies investing upwards of 500,000 to create a new brand name. A naming collision is a circumstance where two or more identifiers in a given Namespace computer science namespace or a given Scope programming scope cannot be unambiguously Name resolution resolved , and such unambiguous resolution is a requirement of the underlying system. Example XML element names In XML , element names can be originated and changed to reflect the type of information contained in the document. This level of flexibility may cause problems if separate documents encode different kinds of information, but use the same identifiers for the element names. For example, the following sample document defines the basic semantics for a person document and a book document. Both of these use a title element, but the meaning is not the same source lang xml root person fname Nancy fname lname Davolio lname title Dr. title age 29 age person book title Ms. title isbn ABCD1234567 isbn book root source For an application to allow a user to correctly query for and retrieve the title element, it must provide a way to unambiguously specify which title element is being requested. Failure to do so would give rise to a naming collision on the title element as well as any other elements that shared this unintended similarity . In the preceding example, there is enough information in the structure of the document itself which is specified by the root element to provide a means of unambiguously resolving element names. For example, using XPath root person title the formal title for a person root book title the title of a book Collision domain Original research date September 2007 The term collision domain may also be used to refer to a system in which a single name or identifier is open to multiple interpretations by different layers or processing. For example a cloth manufacturing firm requires some amount of predetermined labor and predetermined raw material for any amount of cloth being manufactured. The cost of employing labor can be directly fixed as per man per hour or per man per day per hour per minute per annum , so the labor is a cost object as you can directly associate cost with it. Similarly the raw material like cotton or threads or fabric can be another cost object. Other examples may include services taken by another firm, for example a transportation company courier company can offer some service to all customers at a fixed rate . so the cost can be directly associated with it and the company service can be then called as cost object . The tank had an extremely low profile, with a crew of two which sat in an isolated compartment in the turret. The main armament was a 125  mm rifled missile launcher, with a maximum range of 4  km for the Rubin anti tank guided missiles , and 9  km for the Bur surface to surface missiles . It had a rate of fire of 4 5 rounds min for the Rubin , and 8 10 rounds min for the Bur . Both munitions were guided by an infra red beam. The Rubin anti tank missiles were capable of penetrating 250  mm of armor at 60 at a range of 4  km. The Object 775 used the same engine and transmission from T 64 tank. The Object 775T 775 variant used two gas turbine engines instead of the diesel engine. The prototype tank wasn t adopted for a number of reasons. The crew had poor visibility over the battlefield, the overall complexity of the design, and the low reliability of the missile guidance system. POV date September 2010 Image Object Oriented Model.svg thumb 320px Example of an object oriented model .... ref An object database also object oriented database management system is a database management system in which information is represented in the form of Object computer science objects as used in object oriented programming . Object databases are different from relational database s and belongs together to the broader database management system . Object databases have been considered since the early 1980s and 1990s, they may be slower in simple mass commercial data transaction. Object databases main usage is in object oriented areas. Overview When database capabilities are combined with object oriented programming language capabilities, the result is an object oriented database management system OODBMS . OODBMS allow object oriented programmers to develop the product, store them as objects ... 9th ed. . OODBMSs use exactly the same model as object oriented programming languages.
