Life He was son of Joseph Sedgwick, vicar of St. Peter s, Marlborough , Wiltshire , and then of Ogbourne St. Andrew , and was born at Marlborough about 1600. He matriculated at Queen s College, Oxford , on 18 June 1619, aged 19, moved to Magdalen Hall , and graduated B.A. on 5 May 1620, M.A. 23 January1623. He was tutor 1626 to Sir Matthew Hale . Having taken orders, he became chaplain to Horace Vere, 1st Baron Vere of Tilbury , whom he accompanied to the Low Countries. Returning to Oxford, he commenced B.D. on 16 January 1630. His first preferment 1630 in the church was as lecturer at St. Mildred s, Bread Street , London, where his puritanism got him into trouble. On 6 July 1639 he was presented by Robert Rich, 2nd Earl of Warwick , to the vicarage of Coggeshall , Essex , in succession to John Dod . On the opening of the Long parliament he regained his lectureship at St. Mildred s, and became known as a vigorous preacher against episcopacy .     Dr. Obadiah Johnson 1849 1920 born in Freetown, Sierra Leone was a Sierra Leone Creole people Creole who claimed to be an Oba ruler Omoba of the Kingdom of Oyo , and who was of a Sierra Leone Liberated Africans liberated African or recaptive family that was originally from Nigeria . Obadiah was the second Nigerian ever to qualify as a medical doctor. Although this achievement of his was a milestone in history, he became famous only for tackling another monumental undertaking. In 1897 his older brother, the Reverend Samuel Johnson Nigeria Samuel Johnson completed a major work on the history of the Yoruba people Yoruba s but, in Dr. Johnson s own words, A singular misfortune...befell the original manuscripts of this history, in consequence of which the author never lived to see in print his more than 20 years of labour. The manuscripts were sent to an English publisher in London , England , through a missionary society, in 1899 but, nothing more was heard of them. In 1900, Johnson visited England and called on the publisher who told him he misplaced the manuscripts and, that they could not be found, and that he was prepared to pay for them. Although Dr. Johnson smelt a rat immediately, he and his brother decided to let the subject rest there. The original author, Samuel Johnson, died a year later on 29 April 1901. Thus, Dr. Obadiah Johnson had to rewrite the whole history anew from the copious notes and rough copies left behind by the author. Dr. Johnson died in London in 1920 and, the book, A History of the Yorubas from the Earliest Times to the Beginning of the British Protectorate, was published in London in 1921 by George Rouledge and Sons. This book is recognized worldwide as a pioneering historical study and a book of great merit, which sealed the two Johnsons places in history. Hadwen was born in Providence, Rhode Island and spent four years at Moses Brown School , then a further four years at the Clinton Grove Institute and one term s instruction at the Worcester County Manual Labor School. In 1844, while still a minor, he became owner of a farm in Worcester, which he improved and enlarged over the years. He became a member of the Worcester County Horticultural Society in 1847, and subsequently served as its trustee, vice president, and president. He was also a trustee and chairman of the Agricultural College at Amherst now the University of Massachusetts Amherst , as well as commissioner of public parks in Worcester. Hadwen bequeathed his arboretum to Clark University for the sole purpose of education, with the following words Said estate to be forever kept for the purpose of educating students in Agricultural, Historical, and Arboreal knowledge scientific and practical.     Obadiah Grew 1607 1689 was an English nonconformist minister. Life Grew was born at Atherstone , Warwickshire on 1 November 1607, the third son of Francis Grew and Elizabeth Denison. He was baptised the same day at the parish church of Mancetter , Warwickshire. Francis Grew was a layman, originally of good estate but impoverished by prosecutions for nonconformity in the high commission court and Star chamber . Obadiah was educated at Reading, Berkshire Reading , under his uncle, John Denison headmaster John Denison , and was admitted a student at Balliol College, Oxford , in 1624, his tutor being Richard Trimnell. He graduated B.A. on 12 February 1629, M.A. on 5 July 1632. In 1632 he was elected master of the Atherstone grammar school. He was ordained in 1635 by Robert Wright bishop Robert Wright , bishop of Coventry and Lichfield . He was probably lecturer at Atherstone, as well as master of the school. At the outbreak of the First English Civil War he sided with the parliamentary party. Among the thirty parliamentary divines who crowded into Coventry for safety in 1642 were Richard Vines , rector of Weddington, Warwickshire, and Grew, his near neighbour.
